BACK TO BASICS: WOMEN’S PANTS

Two ways to wear women’s pants. Casual and chic ideas for the days where jeans won’t cut it.

BACK TO BASICS: WOMEN’S PANTS

When it comes to pants, I won’t wear them unless they are comfortable. Of course, I also won’t wear them if they aren’t cool, well fitted and made from nice fabric. This is largely why in the past I simply only wore jeans. Comfort? Breathable fabric? Easy to find and style? Simple! Jeans tick all of those boxes.

However, there are times where I am actually a little sick of them. Just a little. Yep, even me, who is a self-confessed jeans addict, will occasionally need a break. Cue a real need for a nice pair of women’s pants.

WHAT DO I LOOK FOR IN WOMEN’S PANTS?

What do I look for in an everyday pant? First, I like slightly masculine tailoring for a chic but effortless look. Fabric makes a huge difference too, so I opt for natural fibers and prefer cotton. Finally, I want an easy, cut that can look dressy and sophisticated without compromising on comfort.

They will inevitably become a wardrobe favourite if I can dress them up or down so functionality is vital. While I love a chic heel, I definitely grab a pair of boots, flat sandals, or even a sneaker more often than not. Finding a slightly cropped length works across multiple shoe styles, offering a little more flexibility.

WHERE I ORDER MINE FROM

The brown pair I am wearing here are affordable, relaxed fit cropped trousers from Mango. I ordered them in medium brown but they also come in ecru and a corral red if you want something bolder. The dart detail, medium-rise waist for comfort, and simple button fastening all make the difference. To mix it up, I can add a belt or wear as is, the fit (I went for my usual size 34) is perfect. Finally, I appreciate the two side pockets, for an extra place to slip my phone. How is it that we all seem to end up with one too many things in our hands? Multi-tasking. Women are always multi-tasking. But we know this!

Toast womens pants in black cotton outfit idea I wore all autumn winter

Another pair I have been living in this year are from UK brand Toast. I opted for classic black in these, but they also come in dull gold. These mid-weight brushed sateen cotton trousers are beautiful. They are a pretty similar cut to the Mango pair but the fabric is slightly heavier with more attention to detail.

I love the softness of this pair, they are so comfortable but also feel chic enough to dress up with a strappy sandal heel. Here, I’ve paired them with a graphic t-shirt from Anine Bing. But have worn them with a blazer or tucked in knit jumper a lot through autumn and winter. They were even great to wear at home as a more elevated loungewear option. Need even more inspiration? HOW WOULD YOU WEAR THEM?

Over to you! Let me know below how you would wear these pants. Are you into the more laid back casual look or into the idea of mixing it up with a heel but casual tee?

Funnily, though I have worn the beige/ brown pair a fair bit, since my boyfriend has some in the same colour, I don’t wear them as much as I want to. By which I mean, I put them on, only to see he has also put his on and I have no desire to be matching. Of course, he thinks its hilarious but twinning with him isn’t my jam. Sorry, Mario! Does that ever happen to you?
