Where I buy my 90s style high waist straight jeans. The five brands I’ve liked the most.
Last week I had a friend ask me where I buy my jeans from, having seen some she’d liked on one of my Instagram stories. There are actually a few places, of course, given I wear SO much denim. She was more specifically after the straight cut 90s style high waist jeans. Above, I am wearing the jeans she was asking me about, from Revolve brand Superdown which I love and are priced under $80, shop them here. I thought I’d do a brief overview below of my favourite jeans styles from the brands I wear most. These images are taken from a few blog posts in recent years, I think it’s fair to say, my style is pretty consistent!
WHERE I BUY 90s STYLE HIGH WAIST JEANS
I have two pairs of the Everlane Cheeky Straight Jeans and they are my favourite options. Largely, this is due to the fact that I know they are made sustainably and because I have loved the cut, wash and comfort factor. Plus, the sizing is spot on, unlike Levi’s jeans which have varied wildly (see below). I am wearing the Cheeky Straight Jeans (above, top center) in sky blue and the 90s Cheeky Straight Jeans in Medium Blue (above, top right). I wore the new 90s style in this recent blog post, talking about the sizing and reviewing the cut. Last year I first shared the Cheeky Straight Jeans in a blog post here and they are still going strong. For more about what makes Everlane denim so sustainable, check out this post here. I can not recommend them more highly!!
I have these in a pale blue (above, top left) and a coal-black wash (above, bottom right), both of which I bought from Shopbop in size 25. I did just go buy another pair in pale pink from Just Jeans who stock them in Australia. They were on clearance and I ended up finding the sizing was totally different. I ended up finding the size 27 fit me best in the leg but are huge at the waist, and a little long. Since I tuck in my tee’s a lot I decided to get them anyway and just cut the legs shorter. This style has frayed hems. If you can, try the wedgie fit jeans on, that is the best thing! I haven’t been able to find this style in the Australian Levi’s stores so try Just Jeans or Myer. Online, Shopbop have the best Levi’s range.
One high street brand that I have tried and wore for about a full year almost daily before I got any other mom jean or high waisted straight leg jeans were from Topshop. (Above, bottom center). At the time, they still had stores here in Australia, so I tried them on and bought them in-store. The exact style with the asymmetric hem isn’t available now, but I love their mom jeans, so I’d still recommend them. Years later, this pair is going strong too.
If you are looking for a really affordable (under $50), good quality jeans, Cotton On ones have been really good to me. They have a section on their website dedicated to high waist and mom jean styles. The exact style I am wearing above has since sold out but I’d try these Mom Jeans. (Actually, I might go try on the white ones).

WHY I WEAR STRAIGHT LEG HIGH WAIST JEANS SO MUCH
I might just like the simplicity of these high waisted straight cut jeans. They aren’t always so comfortable when you are sitting for long periods of time. Given they have no stretch and are pure cotton, I at times unbutton the top button if I am sitting, as it naturally digs into my waist when I sit. I think they are a good cut to show off shoes, be they boots, flats, sneakers, pumps, sandals or low heels. If anything, they have gotten me to vary which shoes I wear more often. I love them with a button-down shirt or blouse and basic tees. They are great with knits, jumpers, cardigans, leather jackets, trench coats, overcoats, and blazers.
I guess you could say, for me, they have become my alternative to skinny black jeans as a low fuss daily uniform. They might disappear a bit as a base and let the other pieces do the talking and I like that about them.
WHY I’M GETTING NOSTALGIC FOR 90s STYLE
One other thing I am rather into at the moment are tops like this one I am wearing above. Also from Revolve and the same brand Superdown, it’s a cool cotton knit top that I couldn’t resist. I had cute knit tops back in the 90s so I am clearly wishing I’d kept some! They are so cool for warmer days and perfect with my jeans.
The other reason I’ve been getting 90s nostalgic is likely thanks to being able to stream so many old 90s tv shows! While I always repeated Gilmore Girls, I’ve gone back to watch Friends, Dawson’s Creek and more. The fashion is all sorta back in again. Not that I’m so quick to jump onto trends. Anyway, that’s the secret! What 90s shows have you watched? Let me know in the comments below. Plus, I’m keen to hear if you have found any denim brands I should try. Thanks, in advance.
