applying lipstick over a sink

The makeup bag bits and pieces I always carry with for a weekend staycation. Tried and tested, these get me through events, low-key days and I know I can trust them.

Whenever I am packing for a weekend staycation, I have a few products that always make it into my makeup bag. Guaranteed. Then there are a couple of colours that come into play based on the itinerary.

A fancy event which doesn’t involve a long sit down meal? Add a red lipstick. Heading out for a nice dinner? Add an eye shadow palette to create a fun eye look. Etc. Below, I thought I’d share what goes into my makeup bag for a weekend trip…

Nars Sheer Glow Foundation – I like this bottle to travel with if I have any events to go to and want a full but non-heavy foundation. It’s my all-time fave so it tends to come with me if I can fit it into my makeup bag.

The Ordinary Serum Foundation – This smaller bottle comes with a pump lid that clicks across to lock. That’s particularly handy if I am flying and want to ensure my foundation doesn’t spill in my suitcase or carry on.

La Mer Translucent Sheer Pressed Powder – This one is generally just to help with my forehead which can get a little shiny. I take it with just in case I need to freshen up my makeup. Of course, any pressed powder does the trick (I don’t think pressed powders are really the hero in a makeup bag) but this one just happens to be my fave.

Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer – Pretty sure this is one of the best concealers in the world. I love it so this naturally goes into the makeup bag.

Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow – This compact is so stunning, the vintage cigarette case inspired packaging gets me every time. Inside, the subtle gold highlighter adds enough glow without being too much. The bronzer is much the same, but you can layer it to contour more if you like too.

RMS Living Luminizer – To be fair, I only just got this in the mail last week after wanting it for ages and finally buying it in the recent Mecca sale. But, I see myself bringing this legendary highlighter on my travels from now on. I love it!!

Nars Laguna Bronzer & Orgasm Blush Duo – In the past I’ve packed the Nars Laguna Bronzer and Orgasm Blush duo compact on my travels but I am almost out of it. To save space, the duo compact is great on longer trips so I’ve used it a lot over the years!

Nars Orgasm The Multiple Cream Sticks – Another handy multi-use product which I throw into my makeup bag just in case. It’s something I can use on cheeks, lips or eyes and fits in most handbags for touch-ups. And the Orgasm colour is obviously the most universally flattering peachy pink.

Tarte Gifted Amazonian Clay Smart Mascara – I’ve already gone onto my second of these mascaras this year. It fast became a favourite. Honestly, I’ve been able to get rid of about four other mascaras I’d been trying that were so-so.

Nars Brow Defining Cream – At the moment I’m not sure Nars are still selling this little brow cream pot in Australia but I love it. A little goes a long way- much much longer than a brow pencil so I hope by the time I finish they are restocked.

Urban Decay Naked Petite Eyeshadow Palette – I have both the original and the Naked2 versions of the petite palette. Both are great for travel. There are natural shades and a couple of darker shades so you can create a smokey eye if you like. Generally, when I travel I take either one of these palettes. The one out at the moment is the Naked Heat Palette which is great to create a warmer but still natural eye look.

Smashbox Cover Shot Eye PalettesSimilar in price to the Urban Decay Petites, these Smashbox Palettes offer more variety of highly pigmented shades for any occasion. Plus they include more variety of shadow finish – eye palette includes a mix of mattes and shimmer. I’ve taken these for staycation trips as well and they offer more colour choice if I’m wanting to do more than just natural hues.

Charlotte Tilbury Eyes To Mesmerise in Star Gold – If I want to create a more shimmering statement bronze eye look I pack this little frosted glass tub. It’s a whipped cream formula and a little goes a long way. I’ve barely made a dent in mine and I’ve used it a lot over the past year. I can add it over a look I create with the nude eyeshadows or wear it on it’s own.

Nars Lip Gloss in Noise – I loooove this colour. Although it was a limited edition from the last Christmas collection. Sorry! It’s the perfect slightly darker shade for my lips without being too nude and washed out. It is probably similar to Dolce Vita.

Tom Ford Lip Colour in Wild Ginger – If I want a really cool statement red lipstick this is one I will add into my makeup bag just in case. The formula is non-drying and the colour is sort of a bold orange-red. If I want a dark red lip I go for either Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet in No.5 which was also a limited edition or YSL Tatouage Couture Matte Stain in 1. Both offer a bright, tomato red without drying my lips out.
