After wearing Bohemian Traders for over four years, I finally got to head over to the Central Coast and visit their HQ.
VISITING BOHEMIAN TRADERS HQ
After our Christmas downtime in Adelaide, I realised we had a couple of extra days unplanned before our long weekend in Sydney. Just as we were looking at where to book for a couple of extra nights, I had an email from Emily, founder of Bohemian Traders. At the end of her message, she said yet again that we must come and visit. Of course, I had always wanted to!
Though I am not sure how she came across me in the first place, Emily and Bohemian Traders were one of the first brands to introduce themselves to me. I absolutely loved their beautiful quality fabrics, laidback designs, attention to detail and wearability. I’ve been wearing their pieces ever since. Their shirts and denim are a daily uniform. I literally live in them!
Back in 2015, I was lucky enough to be the face of their Spring Summer campaign, which you can see pics from below. More are in the Campaign Shoot Post here. There were so many stunning shots! It’s still been my favourite shoot to date.
IN LOVE WITH THE CENTRAL COAST
So, after we landed in Sydney, we jumped into a hire car and drove straight up north to the Central Coast. After an hour or so, we pulled in for some lunch in one of the sleepy seaside towns. It was already warming up and I understood more and more what the humidity Sydney is known for in summer is really like. I’ve visited before but never really felt that. At once I understood the need for relaxed, oversized cuts that Bohemian Traders is so well known for.
I was so excited to stay at Emily and Dave’s guest house. It is a remote, dream spot that has graced magazine covers as it’s often featured or used as a shoot location. We briefly had a chance to meet Emily as we pulled up and made plans for dinner that night at their local, Yellowtail. Their guest house was seriously dreamy. I’ll share a bit of a tour over on Instagram and you will see it in some of the posts we shot there, the first is up here.
COMPLETELY INSPIRING WIT
Dinner was so much fun, Dave and Emily are both wonderful. I can’t even begin to explain how inspired I felt talking to them and learning of how they built the company from one small idea into this brand that now employs a staff of 17. Furthermore, how they achieve a work, family life balance managing to spend quality time with their three beautiful kids.
That inspiration just grew and grew the next day as we visited the Bohemian Traders HQ. It was so awesome for me to meet the team and check out the collections to come in the design space. While I’m not going to spoil the surprise, I can tell you that there are absolutely beautiful pieces to come this year. I loaned a bunch of samples to shoot that afternoon, some I can not wait to share with you! I’ve got two little sneak peeks below.
THE BOHEMIAN TRADERS BOUTIQUES
After the visit to HQ (where we had a delicious cup of tea), we headed up to Erina Heights to visit the Bohemian Traders women’s and men’s boutiques. I’d seen pictures of the new boutique fit out and it did not disappoint. The design and details are completely stunning, so in keeping with their HQ, natural, neutral and beautiful.
While we were there, the staff were just getting the new stock ready for the Daydreamer collection soirée to be held the next evening. I was so sad that it didn’t line up better, as I had to be back in Sydney that morning.
The women’s boutique also featured the kid’s collection, which is so adorable!! Ever looking for beautiful clothes for your little ones? Definitely check out the children’s collections.
A NOTE ON THE RANGE
Something worth mentioning about the brand is that they have such a huge range of sizes, from a 6 (XXS), which is what I wear up to 22 (4XL). I love that they are so committed to creating exciting pieces that make anyone no matter their shape feel beautiful. Unfortunately, for one reason or another, a lot of brands don’t have the same sizing inclusive policy.
Last year they introduced both the children’s line and menswear. We were keen to check out the men’s collection and super impressed with the fabrics, colours and cuts. I know where I’ll be ordering gifts for the men in my life now!
And no, haha! Now is about the right time that I point out that I am not ready to have kids. Though I do love spending time with friends’ kids or nieces and nephews, it’s not right for me at this point. Although, these children’s clothes are so so cute!!
CAN I GO BACK YET?!
As I said, I have a whole bunch of looks to share with you that we shot with this seasons collection. Plus some to come throughout the year. These two sneak peeks are both looks that are out now, linked below.
As a fashion lover, I know how hard smaller fashion businesses have to work, and I am truly inspired by Emily, Dave and their team. They produce around seven (or more) collections each year with a dedication to creating lasting pieces that build on one another from season to season. In spite of my wardrobe clearouts and downsizing, I have my favourite pieces from past collections that serve me well every week. I hope that you have enjoyed this insight into the brand as much as I enjoyed visiting.
