Rediscovering the maxi dress for summer.
SUMMER MAXI DRESS
I think I’ve conditioned myself so much to love short dresses that I don’t quite know what to do with maxi lengths. The very occasional times that I’ve worn a maxi dress (most of which I later sell or regift), I am surprised how much I like them. Actually, I am most surprised that Mario likes them so much. He’s usually more encouraging toward longer lengths. More so, he is usually confused when I inevitably take them off and change at the last minute. Funnily enough, they seem to get a lot of love on Instagram too. Despite all of the encouragement, I still don’t usually feel very ‘me’ in a floor-length dress. All the same, I’ve given it another go at embracing the summer maxi dress.
This beautiful silk dress from UK based luxury brand Hansine, arrived late last year. I am so sorry it’s taken me so long to share it! Initially, I had to make the most of my trip back home to Adelaide and get my Mum to take it in and up for me. The original length was about 15cm even longer! This is bound to give you some idea of my height! Hint– I would never be mistaken for tall.
The beautiful empire line dress is the perfect minimal summer maxi dress for either day or night. Despite my worries that I might look short, or that I was baring too much arm (honestly, I am thrown when it comes to maxi lengths, they are so different for me!) I love wearing this dress. The fabric is the most beautiful silk, the neckline and sparkle strap details are all so lovely. After taking these photos we sat down to breakfast and it just felt like the most carefree thing to wear, lovely on a warm day too. So, I had better consider embracing those longer lengths more often. The style being so minimal and chic certainly offers opportunities to show off jewellery too.
HOW DO YOU STYLE MAXI DRESSES?
Of course, now I am keen to learn how you would style a maxi dress. Please let me know below. As much as I feel a little out of my comfort zone, I also love seeing how other people wear stunning maxi dresses. Particularly style bloggers like Mija. She is just the queen of minimal style for me. I mean, I am definitely not an entirely minimal style person (I never feel quite that refined) but I just adore her aesthetic.
