This week Spring finally feels like it is with us here in Perth at last! With the spirit of Spring in mind (my favourite time of the year!) here are my picks of what to do to celebrate Spring in the City.
SPRING IN THE CITY
My favourite time of the year is here at last! After one of the longest winters I can remember in Perth, I am ready for some sun and flowers! While I am a little biased, given Spring always felt like a Birthday present (my birthday is this weekend! Yay!) it is the best time of the year. I can wake up to crisp mornings, look forward to sunny days and wear anything I like. Yes, I am always judging a good day by how flexible I can be with my wardrobe!
Yesterday I dragged Mario out of the office to wander the city, grab some lunch and check out the beautiful flowers in bloom. You might recall at the start of winter I made him ride a giant swing and take photos of me while we were whizzing around on it back here. This time I was a lot kinder to him as you will see.
There are a lot of things going on for the Spring in the City festival around the city. I thought I’d share my picks with you below.
WHAT IS ON
Spring Flower Bloom – Cathedral Square lawns are decked out with picnic tables and light up flowers, fun to visit at night or during the day. When we checked in yesterday it was pretty busy too! And, before you ask, yes, I did perch myself on top of the only table free- because I knew this was one outdoor table I could sit on for a hot minute without getting in trouble. At home, I try but… I get told to get off right away. This is a good excuse to head into the library, grab some lunch and tuck into a book in the sun. The picnic tables have also been added to Stirling Gardens, Yagan Square, Brookfield Place and the Perth Cultural Centre.
Fashion Shopping Totes – Pictured, you will see me carrying the limited edition fashion tote bags available for Spring. The City of Perth collaborated with fashion illustrator Michelle Pike (who is also the sweetest woman!!) to create the bags. These are available if you spend $20 at a city retailer and present your receipt to claim one of the free bags. Find all the details on where to pick them up over here.
Happy new season shopping! Let me know what you end up stocking up on! Who else is already thinking about Spring Racing season and all the parties coming up?
MAKE A STOP AT
Stirling Gardens – Above (in the pink blazer) I am wandering through the Stirling Gardens, one of my favourite spots in Perth. This is of course, as any of you regulars might recall because gardens are my happy places! While this spot is beautiful at any time of year, the gardeners have currently gone all out with beautiful flowers. It is blooming in all directions. Well worth a visit.
Kings Park Festival – This one is a yearly highlight, running with events until the end of September, the festival celebrates the start of spring with some of the most stunning botanical plants on show. Check out thousands of wildflowers from all over Western Australia in one place, as colour takes over! There are a bunch of events running as well. Spring is the perfect time to take a bike ride, walk or go for a picnic in Kings Park. Or to take your partner if he is still playing Pokemon Go. Yeah, Mario is one of those. I’ll stick to looking at the flowers thanks.
Kings Square Swings – I’ve yet to check this one out, but these light up swings look very cool.
SPRING LUNCH DEALS
Of course, the main drawcard for me getting Mario into the city for a half day would be for food. To be fair, I was excited for this part too! As a part of the Spring in the City Festival, a number of places are offering food deals that I definitely recommend you check out. Apple Bar Daily are doing a $20 express lunch that I plan to go back in and try next. Find out all the info here.
Yesterday we visited Gazette for their $26 express lunch, which included a main and cannoli dessert. We opted to try the Pappardelle Pasta and the Strozzapreti for our mains. Both were absolutely delicious. I want more! Find out all the details of the lunch deal here. And please send me a food snap if you go!!
Now that I have you all feeling hungry, I will leave it at that. Though this post is largely for my fellow Perth residents, I’d love to know what your favourite season is and why? Please let me know below! But if you tell me it is Winter, I warn you we might not be able to be friends anymore! haha.
