Tricky but dramatic! Red eyeshadow is one of my favourite alternatives. Why a bold, fiery red eyeshadow look works.
Red eyeshadow may be one of the trickiest colours to pull off, but I have to say, it is also one of the most flattering. The colour of passion, red naturally leaves you feeling empowered and ready to attack your day with energy.
Having said that, it is not as common in the cosmetic wardrobe in eye shadow form as it is in other products.
I can tell that the idea of red shadow is less common by how difficult it can be to find a true red shade in most cosmetic brand ranges. To create the look I have on here, the makeup artist had to blend a few different copper tones together, not entirely making it a true red, but as close as we could get. The results are obviously quite eye catching.
HERE IS WHY RED EYESHADOW WORKS
Red is the colour our skin naturally goes when we blush, so it is reasonable that it is one of the more flattering hues for your face. We all know red lipsticks and nail polishes are classics in any beauty lovers kit. To create an even more dramatic and fiery look, adopting a red eyelid or even a monochrome red look is one bold statement.
Red eye shadow and liner bring out the pigments in your eyes and help to balance out the whites. In turn it increases the drama or intensity of your eyes. Something I know most women love to do!
If a cherry red is too much for you, try a copper tone red, or mix in reds with your copper eye shadow base. The warmth, rather than making you look tired or unwell actually brightens up your face.
HOW TO WEAR IT
I love a toned down version to wear during the day, and a ramped up alternative complete with red lips at night. Pictured above I opted for a very casual look, with a touch of gloss on the lips and copper tones on my cheekbones. This of course works with my super casual weekend style outfit. (Looking back, I am not so convinced about those fishnets! I thought I’d give them a go, but I think I’ll save them to wear with dresses from now on! What do you guys think?).
When considering a makeup look for a formal event, I think red eyeshadow makes a beautiful statement look. Particularly when worn with a classic black dress and heels for a chic understated look, the red eye creates something a little bit extra. Pair it with a bold red lip and you will really be turning heads.
The key is to build up depth with a few layers. Warmer copper tones form a good base. If you just apply a thin layer of red eyeshadow, it is likely to make you look a little on the sick side. Giving depth and adding darker and lighter shades is key.
No one wants to intentionally make themselves look like they have some kind of illness or eye condition. Go for a dramatic look and take the risk to do something different! Alternatively, I also love a green eyeshadow look! Find some of my favourites to shop below.
Would you wear it? Let me know what you think of the red eyeshadow look. I am curious to know if anyone else wears red on their eyelids or if it is solely reserved for lips and nails.
