How to get the girl next door beauty look with a few simple steps. Go nude but better.
I have often asked my makeup artists “can you make it look like I am wearing no makeup?”. The no-makeup makeup look, which for me captures the perfect bare, girl next door, fresh faced beauty I love is actually best created with a little help- but you can do it on your own.
Not focusing on contouring or adding colour, the look is understated, clean and easily achieved. In the steps below I share how to create this look using Nudestix, a no-makeup makeup brand which is now available at Sephora (as in the online Australian Sephora shop, which launched AT LAST this week). I was only introduced to Nudestix recently but I love that I can rely on a few pencils to create long lasting, beautiful nude (but better) looks. The pencils come in tins with a mirror inside making them perfect to throw into my bag.
Prep the skin by cleansing, toning, adding your favourite serum (to lock in moisture), moisturiser and primer. The essential step to creating a natural look is to have clean, beautiful skin.
Apply your foundation base with a clean brush or sponge. Aim for a lighter coverage (you can blend a foundation with a moisturiser), don’t cake on the foundation! In creating a natural look you want your foundation to allow your skin to be seen and even out the colour tones reducing redness.
Blush! Using the Nudestix Lip + Cheek Pencil in Mystic, swipe three stripes of colour onto the apples of your cheeks and blend outwards with your fingers.
Tame your brows! Using the Nudestix Eyebrow Stylus Pencil fill in your brows with short upward strokes from the inner corner of the brow and follow along. This will define the brows and ensure they create a natural frame for your face. Next using the Nudestix gel wand apply the gel in upward strokes to coat and set in place. I love that the gel is light so doesn’t dry hard like cement.
Line and fill in the lips with the Nudestix Lip + Cheek Pencil in Whisperer (the lighter colour) then apply the darker colour Mystic to the centre of the lips and blend with your finger. The Lip Pencils are creamy enough to wear alone and define the lips while keeping the look natural.
Using the Nudestix Magnetic Eye Colour Pencil, colour the highlighter/ primer base over the eyelid and up to the brow bone. Draw along the crease with the deeper shade and smudge to soften either using a brush or your fingers. To finish, curl the eyelashes with a lash curler and add a swipe of mascara.
