2020 Cyber Week sales have started already! Are you ready for Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals? Avoid making mistakes when shopping online sales deals with my tried and tested shopping tips.
HOW TO AVOID MISTAKES DURING CYBER WEEK SALES
Huge sale deals are to be had this week as Cyber Week kicks off for 2020. Undoubtedly the biggest retail day of the year, Black Friday is Friday the 27th of November. Black Friday is a perfect time to save on Christmas gifts, luxury items, and essentials. Over the week stores will be running ongoing deals, some have already started early. Cyber Monday falls on the 30th of November and equally offers some great deals.
Make sure you don’t make any mistakes with my shopping tips below. Come back this week to inspiringwit.com regularly! I will be sharing blog posts all week with the sale codes and my picks of the online retailer’s sales. Covering women’s fashion, beauty, and homewares.
COMMON SHOPPING MISTAKES TO AVOID!
Mistakes are easily made when the deals look good, you are looking down the start of the new season and want fresh new things. Plus Christmas is coming too! Add to cart right?!!
MISTAKE 1: YOU DIDN’T PLAN FIRST
Work out what you really need or want before you even look at any stores. Create a wishlist and a budget first.
Some retailers like Everlane have in the past taken a stand against the Black Friday/ Cyber week culture by closing sales on those dates. In recent years they have (rather than offer discounts) chosen to put proceeds of sales towards improving the recreational facilities available at some of their factories. Thus encouraging consumers to shop more thoughtfully.
At the end of the day, we don’t actually need as much as we want or think we might to get by, so take that into consideration before you shop!
MISTAKE 2: YOU MISSED THE FINE PRINT
Do your research first. It’ll make sure you effectively purchase what you need. Avoid getting sucked into the sale deals. Read the reviews, suss out if other consumers have found the sizing to be correct, fabric to be good quality, etc. Check returns info just in case.
MISTAKE 3: YOU DON’T KNOW YOUR SIZE
‘That should fit, right?’
Make sure you know your correct size. Have your sizing info measured and written down on hand while you shop. And, more basic a tip than this, make sure you measure with a measuring tape that has the correct measurements!! Think about checking this first to avoid the waste of postage/ couriers etc. It saves you a hassle and is better for the planet in the long run.
PRO TIP: Sometimes I cross-reference sizing info from a few websites to make sure I order as close to my perfect size. For example, I’ll check Shopbop, Net-A-Porter, Matches Fashion, and the brand’s website and read the sizing info on each. Some sites will give extra info like the model sizing for reference or suggest taking a size up.
If in doubt, speak to someone from customer service and ask for their advice. It’s what they are there for.
MISTAKE 4: YOU LATE NIGHT SHOPPED
Guys, I’ve heard a lot of people tell me they distractedly shopped late at night or early in the morning. Or worse, after a few drinks. This isn’t the best plan. That is a slippery slope into forgetting what you ordered, ordering too many things or adding the wrong colour/ size etc to your cart.
It happens, so just keep to the plan and if in doubt, walk away and come back to it later.
MISTAKE 5: YOU GOT TOO EXCITED
How easy is it to get sucked in and buy more than you originally thought you would. I get it. You have to know, when I am searching online for the best deals for fashion, beauty, homewares and travel, I get SO tempted. This is why I really recommend going in with a wish list and sticking to your plans.
Some new release fashion trends look so enticing that I think, ‘do I need a bucket hat?!’ rather than ‘would I get much wear out of that hat?!’. I stop and think about it, look at what I have, when and where I’d wear it in the next six to eighteen months. That generally helps me to not be tempted by new trends that seem exciting but may end up unused. The fashion industry, in particular, is designed this way, and only slowly are people and brands becoming more conscious of how we consume. Keep in mind that you can only use and wear so many things in the space of a week, month, year etc.
WHAT IS ON YOUR LIST?
Many people see the Cyber week experience as a way to get into the Holiday mood. This year we have spent more time than ever at home aware of what we have around us. If you decluttered, don’t use the sales as a chance to fill those spaces again. My final tip for today is to see it for what it is.
After all of those tips, I am hoping that you feel more ready than ever to navigate the cyber week deals. If you have any questions or want help at all, leave me a comment below or send me a message.
