maternity outfit idea with black midi knit dress and long wavy hair

Two knit dresses from Revolve that I am loving and which are coming in handy styling the baby bump. Who said maternity style couldn’t be chic?

First of all, I am here to tell you that maternity style doesn’t have to feel dowdy. I must admit I’ve been outfit repeating a lot as I embrace the changes in my body. Growing a tiny human is pretty exciting stuff and I wanted to make sure I still felt chic and put together as much as possible. Whilst I’ve graduated from my go-to jeans, something I usually wear every day in winter, I’ve found alternatives that are bump-friendly.

So far, I have yet to try any maternity jeans or pants. Instead, I have relied heavily on my leggings (I sized up and am trying a maternity pair). When it came down to it though, I realised I was wearing those leggings almost every day and needed a break. I shopped my closet for knit skirts, pants and dresses, or anything cut to sit loose. The majority of these were perfect for spring or summer, but not warm enough to wear for a few months yet.

Being pregnant over winter, I quickly realised how much I lean on my jeans and pants. As I slowly but surely began to grow out of all of them (bar one pair, currently, at last try on!), I had to look for warmer alternatives. Cue the chic knit dress. While in the past I really struggled to feel confident in any kind of figure-hugging body con dress, pregnancy makes a world of difference. Rather than shy away, I have been embracing those styles that hug the bump.

how to dress a baby bump and stay chic

Revolve has so many gorgeous figure-hugging styles on offer. I’d never really gone for them before, but I wanted to make the most of the opportunity to give them a try. Now I have become a fast convert, as my ribbed knit dress collection has expanded enough to see me through the rest of winter to late spring comfortably.

This chic, timeless little black midi dress from the label NBD has been getting a lot of wear. It feels flattering, the back detail, v-neck and length all create a timeless style that can be dressed up or down. It actually feels more elegant to wear than I’d ever have expected.

To create a more wintery look, I’ve been layering with my coats, mostly a light trench coat, denim jacket or open shirt. These provide a bit of extra warmth and if I am not feeling confident, hide my hips. They have grown, it’s amazing to see how much the body changes.

To dress this look up further I layered gold necklaces, have my Slip Silk Scrunchie at the ready (they are so handy) and opted for black accessories. To dress it down, a pair of white sneakers have been perfect, casual and cool. This exact NBD dress also comes in other neutral colours, and a statement orange, if black is a little too basic for you.

I think by now all of my close friends have seen me wearing this dress more than once. That is how handy it has been! The long sleeves keep me warmer while the v- neck and tie up open back details keep it interesting. Obviously, the bonus with these knit dresses is that I will wear them again post-pregnancy. I’m actually particularly excited to see how I look in the next dress without the bump. Let’s get into the next one…

How to style a baby bump and stay chic

Allow me to introduce you to Weekend Stories. I am now head over heels for the cosy, luxury new brand offering from Revolve. Weekend Stories are all about elevated loungewear and chic minimal pieces to dress up or down. My kind of versatility. Even better? The fabrics. This stunning soft ribbed knit dress is made up of a blend of silk, cotton and cashmere. It feels amazing on the skin, I am so in love. It also comes in black and I tell you what, I am tempted! In fact, I have since added another knit mini dress, from the label to my collection. It arrived yesterday and once I tried it on, I couldn’t take it off. Told you, I’m obsessed.

I’ve styled the dress here super laid back as I wore it out to a casual lunch with my blocky Birkenstock Kyoto Sandals and a creamy shoulder bag. Of course to finish it all off, the gold necklace layers and my favourite aviators from Bottega Veneta. I’m really looking forward to experimenting with layering this dress with an oversized white shirt open over the top, or a blue one tied at the front. And dressed up with heels of course! The cream colour feels so light and perfect to carry through all seasons. And once I am a little more tanned, hehe, I think it’ll stand out even more. Winter has my skin looking rather pale! So expect to see more of this dress on me and more from Weekend Stories too. New fave brand alert!

Over to you! What brands are you a fan of from Revolve? Any you can recommend for us? Let me know in the comments below. Which look out of these would you wear? I shared a few other Revolve looks not too long ago here and have been wearing them as much as possible throughout my first and second trimesters. Not that they are at all maternity styles. For now, I am happy to find solutions that allow me the peace of mind that I’ll wear them again after.
