At home, chatting June 2020 decor updates and all the food we have been making. Including a mistake, I made along the way.

At home with Jenelle Witty from fashion and lifestyle blog Inspiring Wit in June 2020

My headspace this morning has been a little all over the place. I usually spend time on a Sunday evening to write out my weekly plan and to-do list but last night (Sunday) I was busy. Then I woke up at 5 am, got up and watched tv, (I should have read!) before getting on with my usual routine. Sitting down to the computer I really am not sure what I have to do first! So, I thought why not write a catch-up post? This way I can recap, and at the same time roughly work out where I am at! June 2020 flew by!

I hope that you have all been well, safe, and happy. It’s mid-winter here and while currently rainy (with a heavy storm overnight), I am really appreciating any time the sun comes out. It’s chilly but not cold and we have been getting around in shorts and a t-shirt or a dress during the day and pulling on some warmer knits at night.

Below, I will try to cover a few topics to generally catch up. First, decor.

The photos taken in my apartment here are a few weeks old now. A lot of us have probably been making a few little changes around the house, having spent a lot more time confined to our homes over the last few months. While I work from home usually anyway, I definitely started to make a few changes.

The first major one was pre-lockdown when we packed up my desk, bought this table, and picked up some vintage rattan chairs our friend had given us. Since then, I’ve been working from the table on my laptop. It’s made a huge difference to our space (which is small) and how we use it. Rather than eat meals on the couch in front of the tv, we have our table space, which makes me feel like I take more time to appreciate food. I’m not distracted, eating absentmindedly while watching tv. We have had more friends over to hang out, have dinner or a coffee, play card games, etc. I love it so much and wish we had done it sooner! Under the table, we have since added a woven grass rug that ties in with our placemats. I’ll have to shoot a renewed decor pic soon.

I just chose affordable options to update the table area, since we were also looking to move mid-year. Unfortunately, during lockdown, the places we looked at moving to weren’t great and in the end, we decided to stay longer for now. I’m hoping to have some more decor updates soon, as I wait for things to be delivered. So I’ll be back with either a tour video or blog post or both in a few weeks.

I did the dumbest thing a few weeks ago! Ugh, it’s embarrassing really. I’d taken a heap of quick phone photos of the meals we have been cooking at home, put them all into a ‘food’ folder on my phone, and then deleted them out of the main photos folder. Then I cleared my deleted photos file thinking they would stay in the food folder. Turns out (of course) iPhones don’t operate that way and albums and folders are very different things. Needless to say, I basically lost all of the meal photos I’d been looking forward to sharing. FACEPALM!

Of course, this meant I had to start again. Luckily, Mario had taken some photos on his phone too, so I didn’t lose everything.

Essentially, going into lockdown seemed like the perfect time to cook meals without animal products or gluten, at least 90% of the time. To give some perspective on this, we tried about ten new breakfast recipes, and twenty-five new lunch and new dinner recipes. Plus a handful of snacks and treats. All in all, close to about seventy recipes! Crazy, when I look back! That is such a big mission! And I still feel we have more to make that I found, largely through gluten-free vegan meals. We did end up taking advantage of UberEats a few times including the cinnamon scroll I was very happy to break my GF diet with above!

I’ll add a snippet below of some of these meal photos but I have enough to share it in a dedicated blog post too. Come to think of it, that would be nice to have on file even for myself!

Breakfast: gluten-free choc pancakes with coconut yogurt and cherries
Lunch: Fig, Pomegranate, Raddichio, Orange, and fetta Salad find this recipe here
Dinner: Salad with Zucchini & Sweet Potato Patties

Above I mentioned having friends over to play cards, I have really gotten into the Monopoly Deal card game. It’s essentially a card game version of the classic board game and I love it! Only costing about $10, it has provided HOURS of entertainment and non-digital time. It really was a good buy, tracked down at a supermarket no less.

We finally got around to doing odd jobs like hanging pictures and a mirror, repotting and dividing plants and so on. Even though our lockdown has ended, I think we are all still looking inward and reflecting on how we use our time and the space we live in. There isn’t a date in the future yet when we will be able to travel overseas, so I guess longterm plans are still off. I’d love to hear what that is meaning for you and your plans. Please let me know below.

I am also working on creating more video content, including both my usual twice-weekly IGTV posts (Monday’s and Thursday’s) and some new YouTube videos. One is out already, sharing my thoughts on ordering from Mango online, find it here. I’ve got one more quick fashion hack one to share this week and am currently working on a new vlog too.

I can’t wait to share it all with you. Please let me know if you have any requests or questions I can answer!

Till next time, take care. xx Jenelle
