3 HEALTHY HABITS I SWEAR BY

With Spring now officially in full swing for us (aka two sunny warm days in a row!!), I thought it was about time to talk about some healthy habits that keep me on track. Spring literally puts an extra spring in my step (cheesy I know). I am instantly waking up more motivated, I have more energy and will throw that energy into the smallest things that lift my mood. Even making sure my apartment is clean, clutter free and in order allows me to feel far better.

You can’t half tell I am STOKED to see the end of winter!!

healthy habits staying active with running and trying the Mundella lactose-free yoghurts

While I have been focusing more on some lifestyle stories over on Inspiring Wit in the past weeks, one thing I now see I have not posted about in a long time is staying active.

HEALTHY HABIT 1: MEANT TO MOVE

We are designed to move, not sit at a desk all day long. For me, if I am cranky, can’t sleep properly or feel sluggish, getting active is the first thing to fix the situation. It is so important for us to feel that burn, make sure all of our muscles get a workout and our heart rates are pumping.

Be it a yoga session, run up to the park, cycle of exercises or swim, staying active is key.

HEALTHY HABIT 2: DRINK LOTS OF WATER

While I am generally baffled when I come across people who say they don’t like the taste of water, I must admit I am a sucker for it. Water, is in general, my favourite drink. Yes, more than coffee, tea or anything else. Lost without water, I can feel the difference if I am without it for too long.

When it comes to drinking water if you struggle, here are my tips:

  • Get a good water bottle with a large spout opening, not a suck-on straw. This way all you have to do is pour it in. You will find you naturally drink more of it.
  • Hate the taste? Add fresh citrus slices, cucumber or berries.
  • Want extra goodness? Try adding a sachet of natural collagen, green multivitamins etc and dissolve.
  • Try using an app to remind you to drink water. I use a very dorky app called Plant Nanny, which gets me to register each glass I drink and keeps a log of how much I have had by feeding a virtual garden. It gives me reminders when I need water and I have this silly but cute potted plant garden to take care of. It is my only cutesy phone app and everyone I have ever shown it to laughs, but it works!

HEALTHY HABIT 3: LACTOSE-FREE YOGHURT AND GLUTEN FREE GRANOLA

A good breakfast is key. Making sure I am fuelled in a healthy way that works for me means my day is a lot more productive.

Over the years I have struggled with the way my body processes foods. This stemmed from stress when I was 17 after I made a mistake that landed me in and out of the doctor’s office with blood tests each week and seeing a gastroenterologist and many naturopaths. Over the years I have done elimination diets and had all sorts of tests to work out what does and does not work for my body.

Each day I know I can handle about one cup of coffee but that is about my limit on dairy for the day. This is why I have been happy to discover the new lactose-free range of yoghurts from Mundella.

A while ago I shared my gluten-free granola recipe (find it here) which I make each week for breakfasts. The Mundella lactose-free yoghurts are so good to add to my granola (find out more about them here). They come in either a natural yoghurt, vanilla or strawberry. The vanilla I add to smoothies or smoothie bowls because the granola has a bit of sweetness in it already. The strawberry and natural flavours are my favourites. SO SO good!

The best part is the feeling that my stomach is not upset. Normal yoghurts make my stomach feel like it is having a party after eating. That is not fun at all. If you want to still enjoy yoghurt but have trouble processing it, definitely give these a try!
