My skin care and beauty favourites and everyday routine. Aka the stuff that makes my thirty-something skin look a lot younger. The greatest hits, if you will.

Given it is the start of a new year, I have been busying myself with super boring admin tasks like organising my chaotic folders, deleting old blog posts, fixing up any old links, updating my contact info spreadsheet etc.

Thanks to this, I came to see that a beauty story on my everyday routine and favourites was last shared a few years ago, here. Update time! Of course, you all want the best of the things I have tried and use every day. These are the greatest hits! Below are the skincare and beauty favourites I swear by. Forewarning, I like to swap between two or three products in each category regularly, so this is a pretty comprehensive post. Settle in with a cup of tea and a notebook to scribble your wishlist products into!

Not sure how I seem to be always posting about skin care, but I feel like this is something I talk about several times a week on Instagram @inspiringwit. While I am no expert, I look after my skin and have found products, that, coupled with my lifestyle choices, has allowed me to retain a fairly young looking face. (This year I somehow turn 35!) Genetics might have something to do with this too of course. As might limiting time in the sun, wearing sunscreen, never smoking or taking drugs, seldom drinking or eating processed or unhealthy foods.

Below, are the greatest hits in my skincare routine…

The Eve Lom Cleanser is one I talked about a little while back in my Mecca Cosmetica Must Have’s post. I still stand by it and have been using what is left of my first tub sparingly. In the morning I tend to use a foaming cleanser, then at night switch to an oil cleanser (removing it with a warm muslin cloth) and foaming cleanser. I always double cleanse at night to remove makeup and anything on my skin from the day. Not pictured, as I’ve run out, my favourite Foaming Cleanser is by Kora Organics. I began to use that cleanser in 2013 and it is still the best for me. At present, I am trying the Properly Clean Cleanser from Go-To Skincare (also not pictured). I love this one, the ginger smell is uplifting for the morning.

I tend to spritz on a facial spray, like the Mario Badescu Facial Spray in Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater (OBSESSED!) after cleansing. Alternatively, I use Grown Alchemist’s Balancing Toner or the Pixi Glow Tonic. I also keep the Mario Badescu Aloe, Cucumber and Green Tea Facial Spray in my fridge for a cool spritz throughout the day.

There are so many in my bathroom but two get the most use. The first, SK-II Facial Treatment Lotion, I began using more than fifteen years ago.  It locks in hydration, reduced redness, wrinkles and brightens my skin. The second is the La Mer Treatment Lotion. Both are luxury products, but I prefer to invest when it comes to anything moisturising related. The La Mer Treatment Lotion also deeply hydrates and evens my skin tone. I adore them both!

La Mer yet again is my winner here. Completely luxe, it is on the expensive scale but I absolutely love it. Creme de La Mer contains the best ingredients, delivering on unbeatable hydration my skin is so thankful for.

I reach for La Mer Eye Concentrate or Eye Balm Intense. As someone who always had puffy bags under her eyes, these are miracle products for me. Also helping with dark circles, using them overnight, I just wake up prettier. Alternatively, I use the Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Concentrate Matrix. It is still on the luxury end, but an incredibly hydrating and de-puffing product. Plus the wand is built in which acts as an applicator and a little eye massage.

The Go-To Facial Oil Face Hero is one of the best face oils I have ever used. I apply it before I go to bed a few times a week instead of a moisturiser. In the morning, my oil-prone skin is clear and hydrated without being oily. All of the other face oils I have tried leave me waking up with a shiny forehead. So I am completely smitten with this one. It revives and brightens while fighting against fine lines, dark spots, dryness and ageing inflammation.

There are two primers that I swear by, again only one is pictured because I just finished my fourth bottle of the other. The first is by Bobbi Brown. The Vitamin Enriched Face Base is beautiful! My only negative with it is that the jar has a deep opening, meaning you either have to really stick your finger into it or use a spatula. Sometimes I don’t have a spatula at hand because I lose them but I hate putting my finger in to get out products. If it gets stuck under my nail I hate the feeling and wasting product. I use this one as both a lightweight moisturiser and a primer. The second product is the Mecca Cosmetica Soft Focus Smoothing Primer. Under this, I use a moisturiser, but I know my skin won’t get as oily during the day or have foundation slide off.

Though the treatment lotions tend to lock in the moisture, I boost things overnight by using the Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronised Recovery Complex II which is such a long title for “best serum ever”. Applying in upward strokes before adding moisturiser, it deeply sinks into my skin. beauty blog Inspiring Wit best beauty products Estee Lauder Double Wear Nude foundation desktop gold earringsbeauty blog Inspiring Wit best beauty products La Mer Eve Lom go-to skincare Bobbi Brown rms MAC

Moving on to my cosmetic products, the finishing touches. This is turning out to be a long post, even if I did title as being the greatest hits. Clearly, I find it difficult to narrow things down. As you may have noticed, I rotate a couple (or even a few) products for each category regularly, meaning they are all my ‘essentials’. Consider these the second disc of the greatest hits album.

So, there are two foundations I am using the most at the moment, but they are on the luxe end of the scale. These are the new Estee Lauder Double Wear Nude Water Fresh foundation and La Mer Soft Fluid Long Wear Foundation. Both are lightweight so they don’t have a caked on finish. Both are long-wearing and hydrating. The La Mer I love a little more because I never have a shiny forehead wearing it, something that happens with almost all other foundations toward the afternoon. The Estee Lauder one I got in a lighter shade than my skin is at the moment, so it will be perfect in winter. To finish off and lightly set my foundation, I dust on a little of the La Mer Sheer Pressed Powder. The powder helps create a matte but not pore-clogging finish that lasts all day and night.

On the less pricey scale, I either use Bourjois Healthy Mix, (not pictured). Of all the drugstore brands, this one I find the most reliable.

There doesn’t seem to be a day where I don’t reach for the RMS Beauty Lip2cheek pot and blend a small amount into the apples of my cheeks for colour. So far I only have one pot of these, in a bright red, named Beloved. Apply with caution or stain your cheeks and risk looking like a clown!

For bronzing and highlighting I keep reaching for the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Glow palette. I have to try something else from Charlotte Tilbury! Because I absolutely swear by this gorgeous palette. The packaging is obviously stunning, but the bronzer is perfect and the illuminator offers just the right amount of subtle highlight and glow.

Lately, I have mostly skipped wearing much on my eyelids, only using mascara. The best I go back to are Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Mascara and Estee Lauder Sumptuous Extreme Lash Multiplying Volume Mascara. Both of which offer non-clumped long and perfectly fluttery eyelashes. I also stopped curling my lashes as I feel it does longterm damage to their strength.

For eyeliner, I am loving the Eye of Horus Bronze Amulet Goddess Pencil. It is an award-winning liner that is also waterproof, smudge proof, long lasting and paraben free.

If I need to brighten under my eyes, I pump a few clicks of the YSL Touche Eclat, a product I have not been without for the past twelve years. Though I try cheaper alternative products nothing really compares.

Last but not least, my favourite brow pencil is the Estee Lauder Brow Multi-Tasker. It offers a brush, powder and pencil in one. SOOOO handy!

My final category! This post has felt like a mission! haha Like I said, this is a comprehensive list, there isn’t much point in doing things by halves. Lipsticks that I am loving come down to Tom Ford in Wild Ginger, Mac Matte in Velvet Teddy and Estee Lauder Pure Colour Love Lipstick in Bar Red.

So, now you know what the contents of my bathroom basically look like, except add about 200 more products I am trying! haha! Stay tuned for more on hair care, some other skincare ranges I have been testing this summer and my summer beauty edit. Keep up in the meantime @inspiringwit on Instagram.

Let me know if you use any of these products or if there are any you want to try. Got a favourite? If you have any questions on any of these products or a particular skin care concern, please leave me a comment below or send me a message. I am more than happy to help!
