The Brisbane Hotel is one of Perth’s most easy going, welcoming modern pubs, with those ‘old school’ pub values and a regular buzzing clientele. I have been a couple of times now and am always reminded of some of the cooler traditional European pubs I called my local in Adelaide. The service, menu and refurbished fit out is all above the standards in Perth. Actually, you rarely get service this personal anywhere any more, with the staff welcoming you in, talking you through the wine and beverage list, letting you know about things going on etc. With a huge outdoor area, a quiet pool room, restaurant and a performance space for sketch shows upstairs, this venue has a lot to offer.

As for the new menu, the famed Brisbane starters are still there- with everyone going for the chicken liver parfait, the sausage rolls and beef cheek torillas. For mains, the fish were our choices of the night and I was so glad. The Barramundi is locally caught and the Tasmanian salmon was delicious. In Perth, mains are not generally cheap, but it is nice to know that at The Brisbane you will get good quality meals at a decent portion size for the price. I am a big fan of green veggies and am mad for beetroot so the salmon was perfect for me- cooked just right. We moved through the premium wine list between us and finished off with a glass of Whiskey as dessert. The beverage menu is so extensive and we all fell in love with the Tomfoolery Young Blood Shiraz from the Barossa.

After dinner we were treated to the upstairs Lazy Sussan’s Comedy Den to finish the night off with a little stand up. At only $5.00, entry into the club for Shapiro Tuesday’s makes for an entertaining and cheap night out. Running from 8:30pm every Tuesday night, this is one excellent Winter activity. The club also runs stand up nights on Fridays and Saturdays, find out more info here.

A contemporary space with the charm of an old world pub, The Brisbane is a great place to venture for a meal, drink or entertainment this winter. Also try the Young Blood Shiraz!
