How I went on my goals in 2018 and what it means for me this year. The big little goals I’m implementing.

Given it is January, it’s obviously that time to review the last year and set those goals for the new one. I looked at this the other day and realised that I’d pretty well gone along with my 2018 goals. I set 4 key goals which I wrote about back here. At first, I thought I’d set too few or made them too easy. But, actually, I think they were just what I was needing in my life. Making them goals or habits rather than resolutions allowed me to revisit them often and consciously incorporate them into my life.
HOW I DID WITH MY 4 KEY GOALS IN 2018
The key goals were to let go of being busy all the time, say ‘no’ more often, read more and declutter. In 2018 I read 20 books. I said no to so many things I’d have previously said yes to (then 9 times out of 10 regretted). Plus I sold or donated more than half of my wardrobe and decluttered/streamlined (read donated/recycled) our apartment room by room. I even got Mario to donate a huge chunk of his wardrobe.
The one I had the most trouble with was taking time off and relaxing. Sometimes I did well but I occasionally forgot about it and would land up working more than I should without breaks. However, I definitely spent more time with family/ friends and scheduled my work to set boundaries. I found that the schedule opened me up to be more creative and get more done in concentrated bursts. Overall, though I had to keep this in check, I definitely cut down on the useless time I’d waste working with low energy.

THREE BIG LITTLE GOALS FOR 2019
In setting my goals for 2019, I think I’ll maintain what I made habits last year, but these will

COMMUNICATE, COMMUNICATE, COMMUNICATE!
Work wise, my big little goals are in communication and consistency. Big because these are a big commitment but with little effort. It’s time I commit to sending out a newsletter, something I do seldom but enjoy. I’m committing to picking up the phone more, actually meeting people in person and of course getting back to emails asap. I’ve began this already, but making it one of my big little goals is key to keeping on track.
INCREASE OUR CREATIVE WORKLOAD
Beside those goals, I just want to continue to grow my work creatively and our businesses. Both Mario and I run our own freelance businesses (me here and freelance writing and Mario is a graphic designer). But we also work together to shoot lifestyle photography and other digital content. Those jobs are great! I look forward to working on this more. The work is not something I share here as I am generally contracted to create for other platforms.
I love everything from coming up with the concepts, shoot plan, directing, styling, shooting and editing these projects. Dare I say as I get older I’ll eventually prefer to switch more attention to this work than sharing my face in front of the camera all the time. We will see.
LITTLE FINANCIAL GOALS
Hmm, this one is really more motivated by travel and wanting to make some life changes which I am not ready to talk about yet. The ideas are all a little part baked, so I don’t want to jinx them! However, include continuing to eat more at home, cooking for ourselves is something we really focused on more last year. It is key for us in cutting down our spending budget. We just have to stay disciplined and make sure to plan meals. I’m also putting in place little financial goals that will lead to a bigger payoff.
Finally, I have some other little fitness goals but none really worth going into in detail here. I focus on fitness a lot but tend to get tripped up when travels and sickness interrupt my routine. There are some style goals I’ll share in another post soon. For now though, if you have any of your own goals to share with me, please do so below. I’d love to hear them! Did we have any of the same?
