8 THINGS I LOVED IN APRIL
Can the year just slow down already? I haven’t finished editing photos we shot in January! Clearly, I need more time. Now that Easter has come and gone, I am realising how much I have to sort out in the next few weeks and make a decision which will affect the rest of our year into the following year. And I am not there yet. Our rental lease is up the day we are due to fly to South Africa for a month and we aren’t sure where we land on keeping our apartment or packing up and storing everything. That deadline is coming up too soon! SOS!
But onto the 8 things. (No idea why I always pick 8, by the way, but it seems to pan out!).
MY NEW REUSABLE CUP
Again, I am starting with small things. And I might just be drinking from my new reusable cup as I type out this list. While I have had reusable cups for my coffee’s for years, a couple of weeks ago I got a new one and I love it! Made by Pottery For The Planet, my friend Jess has had one for a while and when I saw the pink ones I really wanted one. Unlike my glass cups, they keep hot drinks warmer for longer which is a bonus for me as I am slow to finish a coffee. There really is no excuse nowadays to use a takeaway cup which isn’t recyclable.
If you haven’t already, it’s time to invest in a reusable coffee cup, straws, drink bottles, produce bags, glass food storage containers, natural sponge cloths, makeup remover pads, plastic-free cotton buds, beeswax food wraps, etc. Check out websites like Biome or visit health food stores, there are plenty of options out there.
Without really noticing, at some point I stopped my daily yoga practice. I’d begun to do more HIIT and pilates workouts with cardio at the gym. Which I initially did in addition to my yoga practice, but it dropped off as I got out of my routine. This past month I had two minor injuries from my workouts which led me to rest and get back into yoga. Mario has even been doing some of the at-home yoga videos from Yoga With Adrienne with me. That is mildly amusing for me, but it’s also made me more accountable to get back into it.
Yoga is something that gives me so much! I’m calmer, more gracious, more patient and I sleep better. Not only that, my body benefits from the stretching, holding poses, pushing the boundaries and being kind to myself. I do a mix of types, sometimes its more of a relax and unwind practice and others its all about moving through a flow and getting sweaty.
Actually, I’m not really sure what to call it, product photography probably isn’t right, creative direction and photography? Anyway, after getting over shooting with beauty products, I took on some more jobs this past month which sparked my love for those photos again. While I work as a blogger as my main job, I do also create digital content for clients to use which keeps me busy. I love getting creative with a concept and being able to carry it out from a to z. Unlike a lot of my own shoots where I tend to get Mario to shoot the photos under my direction, then I do the editing, product work I do all myself.
In turn, it usually reminds me to shoot more beauty products and think about writing reviews which I’ve been slowly getting back into. I have a couple drafted to share shortly with you.
STYLING VIDEOS FOR IGTV
In case you missed it, for the last six weeks or so I’ve been sharing a couple of videos a week on Instagram @inspiringwit for my main feed and IGTV channel. The reason I started sharing them was in the interests of creating useful content to share with you guys that might help with your own styling and making use of your own closet. It’s been a great excuse for me to challenge myself with styling as I can get pretty lazy. I tend to grab a handful of items from my closet because I know they work together. When I should experiment and try different outfits out. Turns out I have surprised myself by finding a ton of new ways to wear the same items!
I’m going to keep making them while people are still getting something out of them. If you have any video requests please leave them in the comments for me below.
While I’ve been using almond milk most of this year from Milk Lab, our local stockist recently started selling the macadamia milk and I thought it was worth a try. I loved it!
A FRESH HAIRCUT
On Good Friday, I went down to visit my friend and hairdresser Tace for a trim and it has made a huge difference. The ends of my hair were looking split and dry! She thinned it out a bit too, so my whole head feels lighter. Crazy, since most people want thick hair, but it can get heavy and weigh down curls.
HART OF DIXIE
One thing I didn’t like about Easter and the week everyone seemed to have off was that I was alone for 90% of it. Mario was working so I ended up at home working too. I regretted not booking a trip back home to Adelaide so badly. My best friend Irene was over for it from Tasmania and by the time I looked the flights were over $900 each way. Crazy! While I saved $, I still wish I’d gone.
Since we accidentally signed up for a month streaming Stan, over the break I decided to rewatch Hart of Dixie. You guys suggested on Instagram stories recently. It’s such a cute, silly show!
LATE SUMMER IN APRIL
Last but not least, I have been enjoying the last of the warm 30 degree weather days! And the excuse to wear my summery clothes before the dullness of winter sets in. I even got new sandals and a linen shirt. Which may seem crazy pre-winter but I’ve worn them already a ton, so I am happy.
