FIVE VALENTINE’S DAY OUTFITS AND FIVE DATE NIGHT MINI-STORIES
Five (yeah, THAT many!) date outfits for some Valentine’s Day inspiration. More outfits than I have dates? Haha, if you think that as you scroll down, I don’t blame you! Though, these are the looks over the past two weeks that I have been wearing on my date nights with Mario (who is also the guy behind my lens!).
CLASSIC VALENTINE’S DAY IN RED:
I am going to start with the red, obvious choice. Playing it safe? Wanting to embrace the Valentine’s Day classics? Or just a beautiful print and lovely colour? Personally, I love this outfit, which, if you have a keen eye, you can see is a top and skirt. Sets are something I don’t tend to reach for all that often but actually, can be a pretty smart investment. If you buy a set, you are not only buying that one outfit, but you can mix and match the top or bottom of the set with your other favourite pieces. Win!
This outfit is just one that I wanted to excite you with and share for my Valentine’s Day edit this year. Looking back over these shots, I had such a great time wearing this outfit. You can tell, I hope from my teeth-baring grin!
As we shot these photos the wind was blowing ruffles up in my face, which is how so many of our nights out can be summed up. Perth is a very windy city. We go out and end up with my hair whipping both of us in the face as we walk. You can’t help but laugh about it. Given I wear a lot of wrap dresses, on a lot of our dates, I end up inadvertently flashing everyone thanks to the wind. Those are our “shared dates” (or, overshared!), again, I can’t help but laugh as Mario tries to hold my skirt down while we walk.

THE DENIM CASUAL DATE LOOK:
This outfit was shot as Mario and I headed out to a wine bar, shared a drink before walking across Fremantle to a little Tapas House where we sat on an old couch and ate with our hands. A live band was playing in one corner and I think that really sums up the majority of our date nights. We tend to go to casual spots, where you might run into friends and end up joining them at a table. No fuss and no pressure. For that reason, I love wearing my favourite jeans, a silk cami and comfortable shoes for a date. If this is you too, let me know!
THE SUNNY MUSTARD YELLOW DRESS THAT MATCHES MY CURTAINS:
Not THOSE curtains you perve! haha
Colours that make me super happy will always include mustard yellow. As a kid, I always gravitated toward this colour, so much so that this dress is the exact colour of the curtains that are still up in my old bedroom at my parent’s house. My room was always bright and cheerful, even when I was busy being a moody teen! When I first wore this dress, I styled it with my gold Gucci pumps and elegant hair. You will notice I am not sharing that look here, though we did take photos. It felt elegant, but I felt far more authentically ‘me‘ wearing it with boots and the hoop earrings I wear so often I forget I even have them on.
Not at all the most commonly associated Valentine’s Day colour, mustard yellow made me instantly think of Beauty and the Beast, my favourite Disney film as a kid and a movie date Mario and I had with the live action remake. It is a colour that I have associated with romance thanks to that fairytale. Occasionally we go to movie previews or opening nights and this is a look I’d likely wear if I was feeling fancy.

FEELING PRETTY IN PINK LACE BUT KEEPING IT GROUNDED:
Another colour I have grown to really love, surprisingly, as I have gotten older, is dusty pink. Pink, something I have both loved and later rebelled against. Now takes up a decent chunk of space in my wardrobe. My preference is generally (though, not as a rule), to style it with a grounding element like boots. This balances out the more feminine colour (and lace!) with something more masculine and heavy. This would be the perfect dress to look and feel light and pretty in for a wedding. Talulah are really good for event dresses!
This is a new dress, however, I have worn this kind of outfit with ankle boots to a wedding. I even blogged about that years ago here, in a post that Mario makes a guest appearance! Boots are so good to dance in and wear for a long event, unlike heels which for me don’t feel so awesome eight hours in. Anyone else with me on that?
WEARING: TALULAH LUST OVER DRESS, TOGA PULLA BOOTS, FROM ST.XAVIER BAG
THE DOUBLE DATE, FUN NIGHT OUT PLAYSUIT:
My final look! I see now that I am yet again wearing the same boots. Invest in one or two excellent pairs of boots that you really love and you will not need many others. This outfit I wore on a double date, as Mario and I went to dinner and the opening night of a show with our friends Ashleigh D’Mello and her fiance Rohan. Ash’s style always inspires me. She’s got the longest legs ever, incredible glossy hair and always wears beautiful shoes and short dresses.
Playsuits are something I go back to if I know I am going somewhere carefree and fun. This print is the same as my first look in red, congrats if you spotted it! I just love the print. Lavender is one of my favourite flowers. It just seems a happy, feminine but not too feminine print in exactly the right hues.

WHY VALENTINE’S DAY IS ACTUALLY WORTH CELEBRATING
I hope from here you have taken some inspiration for your Valentine’s Day or upcoming date night looks. In other years I have shared just my jeans and a white tee look, which I can always rely on but is not the only thing I reach for. Sometimes it is nice to do something just a little bit special. It doesn’t need to be on this one day a year, in fact, it shouldn’t be. After recent experiences, I have learned how precious life can be. It is important to make sure the people in your life know that you love them and enjoy their company.
There is something to be grateful for every day. I hope that all of you can always find it. Loving your life is the most important thing of all. No matter the day of the year or your situation. Please let me know below if you feel the same way!
