The surprising print I was drawn to over summer was tie-dye. Nope, I’ve not lost my mind, this is one I didn’t see coming either. #trendingnow ;)
SUMMER IN TIE-DYE (YES, I WAS SURPRISED TOO!)
So, I am not a hippy. I don’t remember ever wearing tie-dye even way back in the 80’s or 90’s like some other people might. In fact, even on last winters trips to Broome (where tie-dye screams at you from the weekend market stalls), I wasn’t on board. By mid-June, I’d already seen a little bit of tie-dye trickling through the international fashion week runways but I wasn’t interested. Not surprising, since I don’t usually care to go so into trends, colours or out there style (classic heritage prints all the way baby!).
Then, it started to change. Re/Done collaborated with swim brand Solid & Striped featuring a signature pastel tie-dye. I loved it. But mid-winter, ordering that particular tee seemed silly. After all, it was tie-dye and by summer I could be back to my normal way of thinking that it was for old hippies and stoners. And yet… here I am. Now, this tee is a one-off vintage find that I picked up in Adelaide on my summer break. However, here is a whole bucket load of tie-dye styles.
HOW TO WEAR IT
Personally, I like the muted neutral colours, pastels or greys, and blues in tie-dye. I think they just ask to be paired with your favourite denim styles for a cool, casual and easy-going look. I have been wearing my tee with either denim shorts or jeans and in some cases throwing over a leather moto jacket or an oversized blazer. Letting the print do all of the talking. Or, in this case, almost all of the talking since I added my Chimi tiger print sunglasses.
In all honesty, I wasn’t planning on sharing a blog post on tie-dye at all! These snaps were taken on our summer holidays in Adelaide. We went for a big day trip drive along the coast checking out some of the spots I remembered and watching crazy people cliff jump. (You can just make out some jumpers in one of the pics above). Crazy!
MARCH IS GOING SOOOO FAST!
It is somehow now mid-March and this is only the third blog post I’ve gotten up. I blame not having the internet for the past three weeks as we had issues changing to the NBN. Today it is finally back up and running so I will have a heap of fresh posts coming your way. They will not be so on-trend as this, haha I feel like I’ve made it clear that this is a bit of a sidestep for me sartorially but I kind of think it’s fun, and that is what summer is all about. We can’t take ourselves too seriously all the time, can we?
Of course, I want to know if you would wear tie-dye? Yes? No? Think I am crazy? haha Please leave me your thoughts and feedback below.
