My full review and thoughts on the famous slip skirt that you have all been seeing everywhere. The Naomi Wild Things Realisation Par leopard print skirt.
My favourites at Realisation Par (aka where I spend a huge chunk of my fashion budget!) currently have 25% off everything with the code FANTASY. But not for long! It goes for four days FYI!! (*NOTE: Updated sale info).
I placed my next order (I almost always wait for a sale code) and thought I’d finally share my thoughts on the highly sought after Wild Things leopard skirt. You have probably spotted me wearing this one at least once a week on Instagram since it arrived!
THE NAOMI WILD THINGS REALISATION PAR LEOPARD SKIRT
Right, so the famous leopard print silk slip skirt from Realisation Par. The Naomi Wild Things skirt. You can’t have missed it if you are on Instagram or Pinterest and follow anything fashion related. It’s been worn by so many editors, fashion bloggers and models. The skirt was released late last year and has been selling out all year long. It took me several tries to get an order. When I finally did a few months ago, I had been hitting refresh on the website all day after Realisation Par announced it was about to be restocked. It is an instant classic and I love it!
The skirt is made of silk, with an elastic waistband. It’s designed to be fitted and the waistband doesn’t have a lot of stretch. For me, I have to put this one on over my head, shimming it down to my waist. It fits right once it is on but I can’t pull it on as it doesn’t stretch to go over my hips.
After consideration, I ordered mine in the XS. I checked my waist and hip measurements finding that I was maybe in between an XS and a S (by a centimeter or two) but given I find the Realisation Par dresses fit me best in XS I decided I’d take the gamble. You can read my posts on the Realisation Par dresses via the links at the end of this blog post.
The skirt measurements in the sizing chart were pretty accurate, so go off of that and if you are in doubt, I’d say size up. You can always have it taken in a little, though there wouldn’t be much give if you need it taken out. The back has two darts which makes for a flattering fit across the back. You can wear it on the hips or as a high waist as I do. The fit is super flattering.
THE MAKE AND TIPS ON CARE
Personally, given the price point, I think it could have an invisible zip at the waist. Though this may alter the slim elegant cut of the design a little, it might make it easier to put on. Having to pull it over my head, I have to generally put it on first before I do my make up just in case I get the makeup on the skirt. Then, obviously, I have to put makeup on carefully so I don’t get it on the skirt, or wear a robe over it. I could also put a scarf over my head to cover makeup and slip it on over that.
Care wise, this one is dry-clean only. I wouldn’t hand wash because I am not game to potentially ruin the fabric. Given the investment, it’s just not worth the risk! Factor that into your care costs when you go to order as you should before any purchase of a silk or dry-clean only item.
I get the impression, given how crazy popular these have been that they are being made in a hurry, just noticing a little bit of uneven stitching in the hem but nothing too noticeable. I think that is probably to be expected given the demand for production.
NOTES ABOUT THE FABRIC
The fabric itself feels amazing on. It isn’t sheer and moves with the body beautifully. The fabric is also easy to pull, if it catches on anything, given the sheen “silk satin” finish, you have to be careful. Watch out if your bag or jewelry might catch on it! Be aware when brushing past anything. Mine already has some minor diagonal pulls in it, though I don’t think it caught on anything.
It steams out creases very quickly and easily, so there is no excuse for wearing it with the straight out of the packaging creases! haha (I may have seen this on Instagram already!)
WOULD I BUY AGAIN?
Hmm, this is one I am in two minds about. I love the skirt. But I do think I’d hesitate before ordering another.
I love the print, its a unique take on an animal leopard print and I love the signature ‘For Real’ detail. The graphic interpretations of leopard print going around such as this one are cooler I think, than your old school classic leopard print. The digital prints are clearly designed, making the pattern more unique and look more expensive than a cheaper knock-off or mass-produced fast fashion alternative.
I would buy another skirt in the Realisation Par The Naomi range if there was an invisible zip added at the waistband. As it stands, with the sale this week, I instead bought two dresses, not one of the skirts, though I love the prints.
MY FINAL WORD & ALTERNATIVE STYLE IDEAS
Looking back, this is probably a mixed review. I really love the print, the slip style cut, the length and the sheen like silk fabric. I was more critical of the skirt thanks to it’s higher price point. Lately, Realisation Par have been offering free shipping on orders over $300.00 but I paid the $15 USD for postage on this one at the time.
My final word? Overall I am in love, this skirt is a fun neutral that goes with so many things. I’ve worn it tons of ways already during our winter and have plans for a ton of ways to wear it over spring and summer.
Since it’s huge popularity, there has been an influx of brands creating something similar so you might find an alternative to love equally. Brands like Anine Bing, Ganni, Free People, & Other Stories and Pixie Market have all had some cool alternatives in various prices. Plus, as always every high street brand seems to be parading out dupes if you are into that.
