Since the weather is doing it, so am I. How to mix the best of summer and winter because seasonal dressing is kind of a hot mess right now.
HOW TO MIX SUMMER AND WINTER
I thought I’d have a bit of fun with this post and talk about the things I love to mix between summer and winter. Inspired by my choice of summer and winter favourites in this outfit. As I mentioned in this slightly ranty post back here, we are still experiencing fake Autumn. Today I bumped into a friend who asked us to join her at the beach while I was wearing a knit (that I regret as the morning sun rose). I change more often than normal in a day, discarding layers, only to pull them back on later. I pair boots with dresses and summery bags with a wool hat.
If the weather isn’t going to make up its mind, why not be a little playful ourselves? Time to mix it up!
THE BEST OF SUMMER
Straw bags: I added the Cult Gaia bamboo bag to my collection as my ‘summer’ statement bag. I’d been picturing it with my collection of tea dresses and slinky slip dresses. Now I find myself mixing it up with a blazer and wool beanie. Uh, I guess all style rules are out!
Open shoes: Being a huge boot fan (I count 17 pairs on my shelves- even after my recent clear-out!) I can generally be found in them all through summer and winter. Open shoes like these low heels or sandals I generally reserve for summer. But I like how they balance out these classic jeans and show a little ankle.
Graphic Tees: By the time winter hits I am layered in knitwear. For now, I am giving my graphic tees a workout. They make for such a fun touch to peek through a blazer, don’t they? It’s the perfect mix of playful-casual and business-preppy.
THE BEST OF WINTER
Wool beanies: Who doesn’t love a cute wool beanie in winter? And who doesn’t want to wear them as much as they can get away with? As soon as the weather even promises to be cold enough, I stick one on my head and call it a day. And Acne Studios, I loooove their wool scarves and beanies.
Blazers: My winter blazers admittedly are the ones that are made of wool, and are roomy enough to fit a knit underneath. Though a light or unlined blazer is as good to me as a cup of water. Essential!
Big cups of tea or coffee: (not pictured, but you better believe it happened right before shooting these photos!)
THROW OUT THE RULES
The dress code is dead guys. Do what you like. The weather sure is.
