What I wore and my experience in Sydney with Dyson Hair for MBFWA 2018.
MBFWA 2018 WITH DYSON HAIR
This year I had absolutely no plan to attend MBFWA (which is Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia for anyone who might be tuning in from the Northern Hemisphere!). I’d missed it last year but you can find some of my 2016 adventures back here. When I had an email out of the blue the week before from Dyson, asking if I’d be keen to work with them again, my response was:
“Heck yes! I hope it’s for a stick vacuum because we just tried buying a new one from a different company and had to send it back. It was not up to scratch!”
It was not to trial a new vacuum but to head over to Sydney for MBFWA. Of course, I said yes right away! You can read all about my thoughts on the Dyson Supersonic hairdryer here. I will have to go into more detail about how I have found using it in a new post soon. Any requests? Let me know!
HOTEL SPOTLIGHT: THE OVOLO WOOLOOMOOLOO
I flew from Perth to Sydney early on Wednesday morning and checked in to the very cool Ovolo Wooloomooloo Hotel. Located on Sydney’s harbour it is a very unique spot which boasts some amazing decor and a very quirky modern vibe. There were plenty of communal spaces, nooks and meeting spots in the main foyer. I seriously could have stayed longer to linger and enjoy both the bar and dining area!
Heading up to my room I was greeted with so many surprises from Dyson! I was so lucky! The room was strewn with rose petals and smelled heavenly. A generously sized room, this is definitely one spot I would recommend staying at in Sydney! If you are looking to book, mine was one of the Deluxaroo Double Double rooms (seriously, I was so lucky!).
PLEASE DO MY HAIR EVERY WEEK!
As I only had the one day for attending shows, I was up early, doing my makeup before the incredible hair stylist Renya, met me in my room to create my hair look for the day. I wanted my signature waves, which she created with the Dyson Supersonic in minutes. Really, she was so so fast I was astonished!
BACKSTAGE AT MBFWA 2018 WITH DYSON HAIR
One of the best parts of attending runway shows for me has always been the finer details that really create a mood around a collection. As you can tell from Inspiring Wit in general, I am not only about fashion but beauty and lifestyle too. To me, the one thing fuels the other passion. Last time I went to MBFWA I didn’t go backstage, so only ever saw the final runway presentations. Having the opportunity to head backstage and see the hair or makeup in action gives me something more to bring back and share with you all.
While I don’t talk much about my former career, I was once a costume designer. Part of my job was to design the looks not only for the clothing but the hair and makeup as well. Often, the hair and makeup played a huge part in creating a character and telling a story. Essentially, fashion designers are doing the same thing.
Before the Leo and Lin show (my second for the morning- I managed to catch the high energy Active show as well), the Dyson team took us backstage to get a look at the hair and see the Dyson Supersonic in action. The low understated bun looks were finished off with a silk scarf, a look that can easily be recreated at home. Perfect for an elegant resort look, I love using a ribbon or silk scarf as a finishing touch.
RECREATING THE LOOK AT HOME
Skipping ahead here but once I got home, I gave the Leo and Lin runway look a go myself. Again, this is up on my Instagram stories if you are keen to see how I used the Dyson Supersonic to sleek down my hair and recreate the look.
We were pretty lucky to be gifted one of the scarves at the show too! I can see that they are available for pre-order here too if you are keen! For those who also have been sending messages asking, this black dress is also by Leo and Lin, you can see more of it here. Personally, I was in love with the signature Ms. Moonlight print and would love to wear this dress! The collection was elegant and playful with beautiful dresses to wear for events and special occasions.
The day was made extra fun as two of my fave fellow fashion bloggers were there thanks to Dyson with me, Rachel James and Kirsten Anderton. Of course, I love fashion week for the opportunity to meet new bloggers I have been following on Instagram for years and catching up with blogger babes that I hardly ever get to see. It never feels like enough time to properly chat or hangout so I am going to have to try to fit in more trips to Sydney or Melbourne when I can.
WHAT I WORE TO MBFWA 2018
My outfit was almost all from my favourite online store Shopbop. The Rixo London dress had been on my wishlist, they are the coolest brand. When I found out I was going to MBFWA 2018, it was time to add it to cart!! How cool is the galaxy print?! Sadly, it is a size too big for me, so I had to wear a belt and tape the v-neck down but I’ll get my Mum to take it in for me when I visit her next month. (Heads up Mum, I have some work for you to do!).
The best news I have for you is that Shopbop currently have a mega up to 40% off sale. There are soooooo many good deals up there! Someone shop for me! There are plenty of winter knits, jackets and coats and scarves on sale including $50 off of my beloved Acne Studios beanie you saw back here. Plus there are a lot of warm weather pieces if you are lucky to be in the Northern Hemisphere for summer.
