Beating the heat in a little black summer dress.
THE LITTLE BLACK SUMMER DRESS
In part, because they were on top of my suitcase but mostly because I absolutely love them, I’ve been wearing little dresses all summer on my travels. Little black summer dresses, little white summer dresses, printed silk dresses… I can honestly say my suitcase was full of them. It makes getting dressed pretty easy!
In trying to beat the heat and occasional humidity, I turned to this little black summer dress by LOVESHACKFANCY. Made of cotton, it’s so comfortable, breathable and super cute! I’d been collecting little white dresses from LOVESHACKFANCY but I am so glad I got a black one. You can style a little black dress so many ways and you need not worry about spilling anything. Haha, this is obviously something I think about if I’m about to pull on one of my white dresses!
BLACK ON BLACK FAVES
While you will see me repeat this dress in some posts to come- again, it was on top of my suitcase, this time I paired it with my new Chloé Rylee boots. I gotta say, I am obsessed with them! Which officially means I am wearing all of my current favourites in this one outfit. Black on black makes things pretty easy but of course I could always add colour.
RUNNING AROUND THE EAST END
Pictured here, I was wandering around my old stomping joint in Adelaide, the East End. This is sorta where I spent a great deal of my downtime. Heading to the art house cinemas to watch French films (and naturally those alternative movies I love so much), heading to see my friend’s bands play, meeting up to draw in bars, eat dinner, run around from pop up venue to pop up venue during the Adelaide Fringe Festival or shopping. Always shopping.
My favourite boutiques were generally at this end of town. It’s home to Australian labels like Zimmermann, Aje and a rotation of others. I’d shop at Bauhaus for imported homewares and cheap costume jewelry. But most of all, I always call into Midwest Trader. Tucked back in Ebenezer Place, diagonally across from my fave French Bistrot Hey Jupiter, Midwest Trader is a spot I can’t miss. For vintage army jackets, Levi’s jeans or shorts, band tees, cowboy boots etc. This time I picked up a cute faded vintage tie-dye tee and I’ve been eying off some more tie-dye on Shopbop! Who’d have thought?!
A WORD ON SIZING
I will offer one word of caution if you are thinking of ordering this exact LOVESHACKFANCY dress (which also comes in white). It is definitely a short style. Shorter than some of my other dresses from the brand, this one is noticeably shorter and is cut higher still on the sides so might not work so well for anyone who is on the taller side. It just works for me (and the lining is a big help) but I am around 5.35 feet tall. I got mine in an XS, which is otherwise a perfect fit.
