The two key style rules I live by.
TWO KEY STYLE RULES
My number one rule before leaving the house for any dealing with the general public situation (aka going to the shops/ gym etc doesn’t count) is:
I would always rather be under done than over.
For me, I tend to style my looks as simply as possible. Fuss-free and low key just works for me. While I love accessories, I rather keep them to a minimum. I love a good statement, but for the most part, wearing so little in the way of added ‘frosting’ is the statement.
Sometimes I like to wear completely male influenced suiting and at other times I feel comfortably feminine in blush pink. All the same, under done always instead of over.
This week when reading over some of the blogs on my roll, I read and appreciated this from that man repelling comedian, Leandra Medine:
Buy less, wear more.
“We can save our money and wait to buy the thing that stops us in our tracks and steals our heart. We can invest in quality that will last beyond next season… You’ll be so much more satisfied, and when you look back on it one, two, five years from now, chances are you’ll think: yeah. I still want to wear this.” — Leandra Medine
The article was all about defending slow fashion, something I am all for.
When I go to shop, though my wish list may be very long, not a lot is actually converted into my closet. As such, I re-wear the same things over and over until they die on me. Be it cheap linen shirts or beautiful designer shoes, I am picky and love to repeat wear.
So, as we do, I now want to hear from you!
What are your number one style tips? Got any rules that you live by? Have you never even thought about it? Do you buy less and wear more? Hate feeling under done?
