I chat to one of Perth’s leading Makeup Artists Simone Cohen about the launch of the SC Artistry Studio and her top beauty tips.
Makeup Artist Simone Cohen and I met a few years ago and she has gone on to be one of my favourite Perth faces to see at any Perth fashion event. Since launching SC Artistry little over a year ago, Simone and her team of makeup artists have been involved with the Telstra Perth Fashion Festival, Urban Couture, STM Magazine, The West Australian, The Hopman Cup Ball, The Beaufort Street Festival, Oasis Ball 2015 and many more events and brands.
Operating both educational and personal services, SC Artistry offers classes for the novice right through to the professional wanting to build on their skills and services like Bridal, all occasion makeup or editorial. I have been lucky to have my makeup done by Simone’s team a number of times (aka as pictured above) and I know I will always look insanely put together (I need to brush up on a few techniques!). Using only 100% cruelty free products, SC Artistry also offer a range of makeup products that can be hard to source. Last week SC Artistry launched their first studio so I took the time to ask Simone a few questions about what is on offer and a few other beauty secrets.
IW: What has been the highlight so far since you started SC Artistry? (I can imagine there are a number!)
Tough one! I would say the main highlight would be watching our students graduate into artists, and start working backstage as part of the SC army. It takes skill and talent but it also takes confidence, which is a beautiful thing to see. As far as milestones go, our very first runway with Urban Couture 2 years ago was a massive turning point that we can make this work, 6 months later we were backstage at Perth Fashion Festival.
IW: Do you have on beauty product that is your absolute favourite?
So many tough questions!! If I had to pick one product, it would be the paintbox brow kit – Its my go to for everything, you can use it as eyeliner, brows and contouring. My very close second is the bite beauty lip scrub and mask – the best recovery for wintery dry lips.
IW: Now that your studio is all set up, what is on the cards for the rest of 2015?
We have so much planned for 2015! We are the makeup partner for Perth Fashion Festival Fashion Central, we now have the space to run workshops and night classes, as well as doing makeup for all occasions. We are bringing in some new brands (we only stock 100% cruelty free brands)
IW: How important is networking and collaborating with other creatives to you?
I love meeting and working with new creatives, it is so important for me to stay active in the industry, I find I will always learn something regardless of who I’m working with.
IW: What is the number one beauty mistake you see women make all the time?
The number one beauty mistake women fall victim to is wearing the same look every day. To me its like limiting yourself to the same outfit everyday! We have such a massive reach to so many beautiful colours, don’t be scared to try something new.
