HOW TO STYLE JEANS AND A T-SHIRT – EVERYDAY OUTFIT IDEAS
It’s always there, chilling in your closet. Waiting for you to reach for it yet again. Because you always do. It’s got your back. What am I on about? A simple t-shirt of course. If you don’t already have one, I am quite honestly surprised. HOW DO YOU DO IT?! I lean on a simple black or white or grey t-shirt heavily. As much as I lean on coffee. Yep, no joke. Because a simple t-shirt is uncomplicated, comfortable and you can pick them up in all sorts of price points. Got $10? You can buy a simple t-shirt. Want to invest $50 in a good t-shirt? It’ll likely last you longer than the cheaper one, but either way, look after them and you have a great building block for your outfits.
My most reached for without thinking outfit is a basic jeans and a t-shirt outfit. This, if you have been on this blog or my Instagram before (hi, love you!) will come as no shock. Today I wanted to share the suuuuper simple way I style jeans and a t-shirt to make it all look fancier. More elevated, more interesting, more luxe.
I talk about jeans all the time (check out this denim category for more), so let’s talk about the simple t-shirt.
STEP ONE: LAYER ALL THE JEWELLERY
Since the jeans and the t-shirt are rather on the plain side, layering gold (or silver, if you are a silver girl) jewellery really add some personality and a touch of luxury to your look. Layer necklaces, rings, bracelets, and even earrings if you have the holes for a few. I tend to stick to three necklaces at different lengths, with different chain styles, pendants and charms. Here is really where you have the opportunity to show personality too. You could wear a locket with a personal photo inside. Or maybe a charm in the shape of something you love. It might just be pieces that were gifted to you and hold a personal memory. They make for great conversation starters too, so don’t be shy!
I have only got one ear piercing so I tend to stick to a gold hoop. If you have more piercings along the ears you can really play around with small studs and hoops in different sizes. Rings are also a great way to add to your outfit, try stacking them, or opting for bigger chunky rings or a statement ring. I would have more rings in my collection if I could work out my ring size but I tend to forget!
Finally, I love, particularly when wearing a short sleeve t-shirt to layer bangles and bracelets. Over the past couple of years, I have collected a few so I can really create a statement arm party look. Don’t be afraid to mix your metals either!
STEP TWO: FIND A FUN BAG SHAPE
So, I’m not going to knock them entirely but I personally prefer handbags without big logos. It’s a personal thing. I like finding bags that have an interesting design or shape without having to rely on a logo to sell the bag. Of course, a lot of people love logos or want to quickly show off a designer brand name. I get it, that is an easily recognisable way to show things like which designer you love, show your aesthetic etc. But there are times I find the designer logos to be too flashy and become a status symbol to show off wealth. Not all the time but I do notice some people love to make it known that they have the latest Gucci bag with its big logo. Nothing wrong with that at all, but for me, I prefer something a little less obvious.
Having said that though, I have always wanted a beautiful quilted leather Chanel bag, so I will eat my own words if I can ever justify one.
A fun bag design or shape can create an extra something to draw the eye for an otherwise simple outfit. It can elevate the look to be more luxurious, or you could add a pop of colour or a fun shape to be a little quirky.
STEP THREE: SHOW OFF BEAUTIFUL SHOES
A simple outfit with jeans and a t-shirt is the perfect blank (but comfortable and cool) canvas to show off accessories. Shoes, of course, being a big part of that! Wearing slightly cropped jeans also offers another opportunity to draw the eye down to your feet and show off some killer shoes. Opt for a minimal mule like the pair I have on here or something colourful, printed, embellished etc… the options are endless. Actually, sometimes if I have a new pair of shoes that I really want to show off a simple jeans and t-shirt outfit is exactly where I will start!
