Sharing some of my favourite Perth cafes. I keep heading back to the same places so I thought it was about time that I shared them with you.
There are so many great places to choose from in Perth for excellent food (and Instagramable interiors!). Though I tend to end up heading back to some of the same spots. It had been a while since I shared my list of Where to Eat in Perth so consider this an update. Below are places for excellent coffee, breakfast, lunch or dinner and my favourite Perth cafes.
MY FAVOURITE PERTH CAFES
Ooh Coffee North Freo
Ooh Coffee, is one of my newest favourite Perth cafes. The bright white space offers seriously good coffee, toasties and sweet treats. Though this part of North Freo is a hot spot for good food and coffee, I love this place.
WHERE: 255 Queen Victoria st North Fremantle 6159
Of course one of the bonuses of Ooh Cafe is that it joins onto the beautiful boutique Ooh La La. Stocking some of the most interesting labels in any boutique in Perth, Ooh La La is one spot I love to check out. The range on offer include M.i.h jeans, Rachel Comey, Nassir Zadeh, Creatures of Comfort, Mother Denim, Raquel Allegra, Matteau Swim, Marysia Swim and more. It’s about time we got some variety in a Perth boutique!
Little Bird Cafe
If you are making plans to head out for breakfast or lunch in Perth, Little Bird is not only a tasty, healthy option, but one that gives back.
The Northbridge cafe is also a social enterprise, donating 100% of their profits to their own charity The Bridge, a rehabilitation facility for alcohol and drug affected persons. They offer work experience to some of the girls from The Esther Foundation, giving them opportunities to develop vital confidence and skills.
WHERE: 100 Lake Street, Perth
I highly recommend the banana & coconut buckwheat pancakes and choc mint smoothie. People had told me about the pancakes and the staff all recommended them highly and they did not disappoint. With plenty of fresh fruit on top and the syrup on the side, I had the option to make it sweeter but didn’t end up using it.
And the hummingbird cake! We split one of those between our table, it was so fluffy and light. This spot is so good for a cake and coffee or tea date.
One of my favourite places in North Fremantle, Propeller recently launched their beautifully renovated space and new middle Eastern inspired share menu.
The fresh new menu is excellent. The dishes and flavours inspired by the Middle-East are designed to be shared. Each dish can be perfectly matched with their offering of local and international wines. The fresh salads and seafood are my favourite dishes. Of course, I love the Moroccan mint tea to finish.
WHERE: 222 Queen Victoria Street, North Fremantle
If you have yet to dine in for lunch or dinner, I highly recommend!!
Mary Street Bakery
Located in the heart of the CBD the new Mary Street Bakery site is ready to tempt everyone with it’s beloved baked goods, donuts and coffee. Mary Street Bakery is still the first spot we think to go to for breakfast and the first any interstate visitor asks me to take them to.
A creature of habit, I tend to stick to eggs and soldiers which they do damn well. It comes served on a board with a tower of toast, side of pink sea salt, a cardboard egg carton with your soft boiled eggs and a dipping tomato chutney sauce. Add avocado as a side if you just need to. Besides this, I opt for a ham and cheese croissant, which come out griddled from the press but SUPER crisp and tasty. The pastry is dead on. Their coffee is small but very good, if you are dining in and want a larger cup order it in a large takeaway cup.
The desserts are really insane here. The donuts are better than any topped up stuffed donuts you can find elsewhere. The salted caramel is really where it’s at but the others are also damn good. The brownies and cookies are all excellent, kind of rustic and not at all over cooked or dry.
WHERE: Allendale Square, 77 St Georges Tce, Perth
Of course, we do head back to the Mount Lawley original almost once a week. Meeting up with our friend for a croissant and coffee could be one of my favourite choices. Made even better for sitting outside with our friend and her dog Dartagnan. (See below!)
WHERE: 507-509 Beaufort Street, Mount Lawley
Odyssea City Beach
Odyssea City Beach is an excellent choice for a healthy, beachside meal. This place is the perfect location!
For brunch, I love the frozen yoghurt gluten free granola. I have ordered it a few times now. The other dish I recommend is a twist on the well loved smashed avocado toast, with lime, grains and seeds. So tasty! If you are not drinking coffee (which they do well), try the beetroot sunrise juice blend.
Of course, dinners at Odyssea are also beautiful. There are so many delicious seafood and vegetable dishes on offer. Make sure you get there in time to see one of the iconic Perth sunsets over the ocean.
WHERE: 187 Challenger Parade, City Beach
The menu changes seasonally, but each meal I have ever had was delicious. Come to think of it, this is one of the Perth restaurants I have been back to for dinners the most often.
Oh and I know a few people who would be keen to try the doughnut-brownie-ice-cream sandwich. If you are a dessert person, save room.
It didn’t take me long before I realised that the guys at Pixel had learned my name. Had I really been in there that often that they knew what I was going to order and knew my name?
Turns out, yes. If you follow me on Instagram (@inspiringwit) you will have seen that I tend to order the same thing… either an Acai bowl or a Nourish bowl, which is like a protein bowl of fresh veggies and either bacon or salmon.
WHERE: 2/226 Oxford St, Leederville
Pixel also have some of the best coffee in Perth, and a huge range of cakes and slices with plenty of gluten free options.
Three Sisters Vietnamese Tuckshop
Beautiful, fresh food and a lovely minimal space. (Rather Instagram worthy! Though, I have been too busy eating here to actually take photos!) The sisters are lovely, so welcoming and accomodating. The salads are fresh and the pho is super tasty as well. They give you sprouts, fresh mint and sauces so you can add whatever you like to personalise to suit your tastes. The perfect spot for a well priced lunch, this is one place I am very happy has moved in!
Be sure to order one of the Vietnamese iced coffee’s as well.
WHERE: 253A Oxford St, Leederville
Our local coffee spot. These guys are the real deal. They roast their own coffee and do not kid around. The hole in the wall spot is almost a best kept secret, but locals love it. Humblebee is a destination for coffee lovers. Serious coffee lovers. The cups are small, the coffee is made to perfection and the guys working here are legends. If you are a honest to goodness coffee lover you will have no troubles with their real approach to coffee. They offer: Black or white coffee, batch brews, filter brews, iced Aeropress coffee, and Iced Espresso tonics.
WHERE: 77 Coogee St, Mount Hawthorn
Besides the coffee, these guys offer plain or chocolate croissants, custard and raisin escargot and filled donut holes. The donut holes are offered in apple, salted caramel, chocolate and red fruits. These are all fresh and not too sweet.
The Hummus Club
A super tasty dinner spot in Northbridge, The Hummus Club is a new favourite. Everything is so fresh, tasty, complete with a mix of textures and unlike anything else in Perth. The hummus itself is so tasty, creamy and delicious. The added pomegranate (which is filtered through a few of the dishes, creating a bit of a story flow with the meal), makes for a nice and fresh touch.
My final word is to same room for dessert. The signature Tatya’s Doughnuts are unreal. Served with chocolate, mint and orange pieces it is like an after dinner mint or orange refresh with warm fresh doughnut pieces as well. The taste is just amazing!
WHERE: 258 William St, Perth
These are just a few of my favourite Perth cafes that we visit regularly. I tend to feature more food places we get to check out over on the Inspiring Wit Facebook page. If you are into food, be sure to follow us there.
If you are in Perth and have some recommendations, let me know! What are some of your regular hot spots?
