Catching up- cameras, photography assignments, bikes, workouts and more. All the things that have been distracting me over the last few weeks.
Though I really can NOT start another post exclaiming something along the lines of “how is it FRIDAY again already?!”, I am not going to lie, it was the first thought to cross my mind. Somehow lately, I get to Wednesday and Thursday planning to post a new blog post but it ends up being a Friday before I can commit the time to it. Once I have my other work out the way- the kind that other people are counting on with deadlines, I can get back to things like Inspiring Wit.
Having said that, I thought I’d dedicate this post to a check in and catch up to share what I’ve been up to.
NEW IN – TECH UPGRADES
A little of the quietly exciting stuff that has been happening of late has been ticking things of my wish list. Not only have I finally upgraded my iPhone but my camera equipment as well. Over the past year both Mario and I had been talking a lot about getting a new camera body to upgrade from my old faithful baby, the Canon 5D Mark II. We watched the prices, missed one deal that had looked really good earlier this year and regretted it. When another deal came up we managed to spot it about an hour before it finished one Sunday, raced down to the store and JUST managed to get in our order.
These photos taken above were the first outing with the new camera body, the Canon 5D Mark IV. I am sooooo in love and so excited!
FREELANCE LIFESTYLE PHOTOGRAPHY WORK
For anyone wondering, some of the work that I take on outside of my Inspiring Wit blogging jobs is photography and content creation for external clients. I also freelance as a copywriter from time to time. While I am in a way self-taught (when it comes to digital), I studied photography for a couple of years way back in the day. That was pre-digital, so I shot with an SLR and got to spend time developing my own images by hand. I miss that creative experience so much! Plus, the smell of the chemicals was actually intoxicating- in a good way. I remember those days spent in the darkroom fondly!
Some of our clients tend to be brands who want lifestyle related images featuring their products, hotels or restaurants. I say ‘our’ because often Mario and I assist one another on those shoots. It is for this reason that there are some weeks where I spend hours glued to the computer screen editing hundreds of images till I get a little brain dead! Not that I am complaining, I love this type of work. I also love the creative process of researching and planning for a shoot, coming up with our game plan and creative direction. I call it ‘lifestyle photography’ because a lot of the time we create images that have a story or human element involved, rather than just a straight hotel room shot or plate of food shot. (We do some of those too though!).
We have been doing a bit more of this work recently so it’s kept me busy and I am loving having the new camera body to play with. So many focal points!!
NEW WORKOUT ROUTINE
Another thing I have switched up lately has been joining a local gym. Rather than my daily at home workouts with a run a few times a week, we have been hitting the gym. It is my first gym membership so I am still feeling it out, testing what I like to use and what works for me. I’ve been coming up with circuits and have them all jotted down in a little notebook that I carry around with me. Probably seems odd to the regular gym junkies but it means that I stay on track and can vary my routine. I love resistance training, functional movement and bodyweight training most. The goal is overall health and toning.
It’s been a long time since I shared much in the way of fitness content on Inspiring Wit, as I’d thought it was of little interest. After all, my fitness experiences are in no way professional but I do train a lot and try out a lot of activewear brands. I shared a few workout stories on my Instagram @inspiringwit recently and noticed they had been seen by double the amount of any of my normal stories. So, let me know if you want me to share any activewear related content.
I GOT MY OWN BIKE!!!
On the weekend while helping Mario and his best friend James track down camping gear, I FINALLY and unexpectedly found a bike! I’ve been talking about getting a bike for years, tossing up between cheap ones and super expensive ones. Luckily, the one I found was half price and a good deal, so I am glad I waited. This afternoon we took our first ride and got lunch, it was beautiful. I can really feel that winter is winding down and have been enjoying the sun as much as I can.
I’m going to leave this post here, though, I realise I have more things I can update you on than I had expected, so may post another personal post next week. Till then, enjoy your weekend guys.
