Over the past week I have been sharing ‘A week in my shoes’ on Instagram (@inspiringwit). I was kindly asked to be one of Clarks Australia’s Style Ambassadors and chose these ‘Sarina Emma’ heeled sandals. I styled them each day in my typical fuss free and ready to go way (with a little elegant edge). If you have ever needed a versatile shoe to travel with (damn weight restrictions!), to reduce the number of shoes you have taking up your closet (guilty!) or which are comfortable and stylish enough to repeat wear, these are for you. Problems solved. Click on to see my full week with all outfits and adventures.
You may all know Clarks from your school days- I certainly did, and I am happy to tell you that not only are they still making excellent quality school shoes, but Clarks also have a comprehensive range for men and women. The best part? They are stylish, but just as comfortable and well made as the ones that got you through your long school years. Knowing that the cage/ boot/ open-toe/ leather sandal style would be hugely versatile, these heels were the perfect choice. With built in cushioning, I was able to wear them all day with no complaints- something I WISH I could do with some of my other heels! As you will see below, these shoes are perfect to mix with different hem lengths, for different occasions from corporate to dressy or casual.
Monday was my errand day. Just having finished an epic month long blogging style challenge, I needed to get my hair done, re-organise my wardrobe, clean up around the house and pick up all sorts of odds and ends. For a fuss-free look for a day of running around (Mum’s out there, I am looking at you!), I paired my Clarks heels with skinny leg cropped jeans and a leather top- I find leather tops versatile to keep warm, but also add a little extra something textural. Finally I threw on a vintage bold striped jacket I snapped up from an op-shop years ago. I love to layer up on a warmish day with an oversized waistcoat, or loose jacket/ cardi. Keeping things neutral also means each piece works in harmony. The cropped jean is also perfect to show off your shoes!
As I work my office job of a weeknight/ weekend, it leaves Tuesday as a day off with my partner. This doesn’t mean we take the whole day off, as we both work freelance for ourselves, but every now and then, it is also important to have some downtime. Luckily it was also a warm day, so we drove out to the Araluen Gardens to see the tulips- (it is tulip festival season!) and have a picnic. I love a good romper, and this lace one in blue was so great I had to get it! I look forward to wearing this all Spring/ Summer. I have been eyeing off so many jumpsuits and rompers- I will do up a little ‘shopping’ piece later this week to share some of the best ones I have found.
Wednesday: Launch Event With They All Hate Us
Wednesday night I attended the Karrinyup Spring Summer 14 Launch, wearing my favourite printed floral skirt- to get into the Spring feeling. The midi length skirt worked perfectly with my Clarks sandals, and I was happy for the cushioning, being on my feet all night. Meeting Tash and Elle from They All Hate Us was exciting. I’ve been following them for years, always in awe of the gorgeous images they post each day. A lot of my street style inspiration discoveries over the years have come through their blog, and I love of their personal styles. The best part was that they were far nicer than I could have imagined and funnier too. (Taller, it is worth mentioning, as in our violet lit photo above, both Elle and Tash tower over me!) I will post a little more about the Karrinyup SS14 Launch in a few days.
Thursday: Exhibition Launch
On Thursday after a day of meetings and work, I headed out to check out the new exhibition by David Spencer at the Gallows Gallery in Mosman Park. “This Is How I Feel” was a beautiful, bright, colourful and cheerful exhibition, and just what I was hoping for. I teamed my boyfriend jeans with a black bustier and the Clarks heels for a comfortable but somehow elegant look. Really, I felt like I was cheating, because I am as ‘at home’ in this style as I am in my pj’s. I love the versatility of the bustier. I can wear them layered with a striped long sleeved top, with shorts, a skirt, jeans… the list goes on. If you are looking for an effortless look, don’t go past snapping up one of these. Most of you have boyfriend jeans, so this look is all too easy! See how these heels work with… everything?? :)
I am always more attracted to silhouette trends as opposed to ‘style trends’. I love when new cuts, volumes and shapes start mixing things up in the new collections. The cropped/ culotte style is not going to go away anytime soon. I say, give in, invest in one neutral pair, see how often you wear them, and if you are like me and love the wide leg breeziness, you soon may start to leave your skinny jeans behind more often than you expected. The best part is that they show off your amazing shoes! This outfit, a typical look for me this Spring/ Summer for meetings, going out to lunch, to work and is seriously free and easy. I tucked in my chambray shirt, threw on a leather biker jacket to ward off the morning chill and a shoulder bag to hold my essentials. This for me is a perfect example of the Parisian comfort and elegance meeting the easygoing Australian lifestyle.
Saturday: The Office
A quick morning stop to pick up coffee and croissants before work. This is a typical office look for me- an interesting pencil skirt- the wrap style is flattering and a little different, a striped top and waterfall relaxed blazer. Work wear is something I love to put together, I think because I don’t have to endure a uniform. I also like to make sure that my outfits reflect my personality. Corporate styles can get a little same same, after all and ironically the workplace is one part of your life in which you want to stand out!
Sunday: Brunch Date
Today also happens to be Fathers Day! While my Dad is off chasing bears in Canada (literally!!) I started today with my partners family for breakfast. I chose to wear this Bassike striped dress with vintage denim jacket (thanks Mum!). We went to a cafe with a tropical garden, although I think it almost looks like I could pretend to be in Bali. I wish.
I hope you have enjoyed this insight into my week. A special thank you to Clarks for asking me to be one of your Style Ambassadors and for sending me such lovely gifts. I hope you have spotted something which can give you ideas to style up your shoes for Spring/ Summer! You can find the Sarina Emma shoes at the Clarks website here. Looking forward to sharing more exciting stories next week! xx
