Two outfits that incorporate blush without being too girly. How to add a touch of blush pink to your style but keep it edgy.
BLUSH PINK, REALLY?
Years ago, I would have said you were crazy if you told me that blush pink would be one of my main accent colours. It’s so girly, right? Not very rock and roll! Well, it turns out, it doesn’t have to be. As I look through the dusty blush pink section of my wardrobe, the colour is dotted around everywhere. I own seven bags in some shade of nude to blush to bright pink. It is safe to say, this is one shade that I keep being drawn too!
HOW TO ADD BLUSH TO YOUR STYLE WITHOUT GOING TOO GIRLY
At this stage, I am well past the cringe factor and have come to terms with the fact that as uncool as it may once have seemed to me. Blush tones are sort of my jam. The difference can lie in how I style it.
There are the full blush or pink outfits I’ve saved for an event or to wear on a romantic day (eg wedding guest attire) but most of the time I pair blush tones with something more grounding. Choosing to accent pinks with neutrals, denim and black, ensures that my overall look is balanced. I love to mix feminine with masculine, something edgier with something light. That in-between is really a sweet spot.
BLAZER, BOOTS AND PINK ACCESSORIES
In this first look, I paired a plain white tee, denim mini and a longer more masculine blazer with edgy studded boots. On its own, that combination is cool and understated. However, I wanted to add extra charm with the pink bag and beret. The black ankle boots are enough to make the look edgier and on the contrary, the pink accessories add a softer feminine touch. I could swap out the denim mini for shorts, or jeans. The neutral check blazer just creates the desired effect. Adding a black leather jacket instead would tip the look over to a more masculine side and the whole outfit would lose its balance.
I often pair a white tee classic blue jeans and a blush tone bag together. That combination just feels fresh and approachable.
BLACK FLORAL DRESS, BLACK BOOTS, DUSTY PINK BAG
This one was a little date night outfit I attempted to wear over the weekend. I say attempted because by the time we got into the city it was so cold I had to change in the car! Luckily I had some warmer gear in the boot.
Anyway, I have always loved ‘dark florals’ which is basically what I call any floral print on a black base. This floral dress from Rodeo Show was the perfect feminine dress that I could either style in a full feminine way or style it back with something edgy like these boots. Over this, I would throw a black leather jacket, because the dress is busy enough. Adding a pink bag picks out a colour from the print and adds a little something fun to finish off the outfit. I love the muted dusty pink hue of this Manu Atelier bag, it is probably one of the least girly shades of pink.
So, there you go. If blush is something you are keen to experiment with but are a little apprehensive, try an accessory and pair it with neutral tones. Try a muted dusty colour pink and if in doubt, balance it out with a black leather jacket or shoe style.
