The new black suit. Taking a classic and giving it a refresh with a fashion blogger twist. Let me know what you think about the fishnet trend. Love it or hate it?
THE NEW BLACK SUIT
While there is no need to reinvent the wheel (if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it!), a black suit can carry you confidently. There is a reason they call it a power suit after all. Style is about finding what you love, what works for you and adopting it in your own way. Fashion on the other hand is a beast that changes often on a whim.
So, where do you draw the line? Where do you adopt a trend and make it work for you? Right now, I am experimenting in my own way with that fashion blogger favourite, the fishnet tights.
DO YOU DARE WEAR FISHNETS?
Of course there had to be a blogger twist. By now it is not just fashion bloggers wearing fishnet tights, they are everywhere. I was only just talking to Emily about how we had both recently discarded our fishnets, only to come around to the trend we have been seeing all summer (on everyone in the northern hemisphere over winter). Love them or hate them, personally I feel like when worn tastefully they can add something interesting to an otherwise simple outfit. Or, add something to an outfit you have worn a gazillion times already to mix it up.
This was not the first time I wore a black blazer and jeans together. ;)
Yes, they can be worn in ways that I personally find strange, but I don’t think that should put you off entirely. For those not wanting to expose their midriff with the tights pulled up to your waist, don’t. Instead, try worn under a cropped length pant, with a pencil skirt or under distressed boyfriend jeans. Think subtle, to add a more edgy layer.
Think of it this way, if you are feeling a little bored with your sartorial style but don’t have so much cash to splash on a new outfit, a $10-12 pair of fishnet tights or socks is a good deal.
ACCESSORIES ARE KEY
Easily worn from day to night, a black blazer, flared crop pant and white silky top combination is one of those outfits I go back to if I have to go from working to an event in the evening without the time to change. Though tailoring here is key (make sure the basics are working for you!), accessories are what create edge. Adding a black sequin scarf, the fishnets, patent leather shoes and the croc effect bag to create extra interest keeps the black on black look more interesting.
It’s always about those little details that can make the whole look sleeker.
So, of course, the question is, will you wear it? Love or hate the fishnet tights trend? I’d love to hear your thoughts. Please unleash in the comments below!
