I thought I’d share one of my typical office looks with you for what is likely an alternative version of the usual corporate wardrobe.
I work in an office part time, I am the only female in the office and rarely see any other women in corporate wear unless I happen to be kicking around in the city of an early morning. What I realise, is that I perhaps have adopted a corporate style which is not completely average. Anytime I pull on something that seems like a clone of the general ‘corporate attire’ I feel like I am in a uniform and I find that pretty un-motivating.
Not long ago there were all kinds of rules about collars, sleeve lengths, colours and so on, I think things have changed over the past few years a lot as fortunately companies are more aware of the strength in allowing employees to have personality and reflect this in their work. There are still rules around- I am not allowed to wear heels for health and safety reasons, which has had a big impact on how I choose to style my looks. For example – generally pencil skirts are out- as on me they work better with heels (I am not hugely tall).
The things I wear the most are loose fit black pants or culottes such as these I have on here. The relaxed fit is comfortable, particularly when sitting at a desk for an extended period. These ones are drop crouch with a shiny panel on the side that make them feel a little more like a tux pant. I will pair this with a top that is looser and embrace relaxed fits, it feels formal enough but modern too. I watch the tv show Suits all the time and while I love the wardrobe department in the show- I have wished a few times that a female character with a little more relaxed swagger would saunter in to break things up. Perhaps she could also be Parisian and wear large glasses. (How many pencil skirts do we need to see anyway?!)
I’d love to know if you guys actually want me to share more of the corporate looks or not? If so, please let me know and I will get on it. For the most part I tend to get the most feedback on my off duty style everyday looks but I thought I would throw this out there and see who was interested. If you are a little over your corporate look and want to mix it up, let me know! I have a bunch of tricks!
Cheers, Jenelle xx
