Feeling a lot lighter and ready for Spring with thanks to a full day at Maurice Meade.
Last week (I know, I have been sneaky- did you spot my lighter locks??) I spent a day with the team at Maurice Meade in Subiaco who transformed my hair from its natural light brunette to the highlighted blonde I am currently sporting. Surprise! I hadn’t really visited a salon in a while and my balayage was over a year old (and you could tell! Oops!). It was time for a change.
MY HAIR TRANSFORMATION
To aim for something new and different I went for a complete global colour change- which given I was going lighter and have such thick hair, was a day-long process. I arrived at 9 am and spent the first two hours with Charlotte who carefully added hundreds of foils. I was glad to see that Charlotte was a perfectionist and had thoroughly planned out the colour and long term goal.
I had gone in a few days earlier for a consult, where Charlotte was able to diagnose my hair, skin tone, scalp and test it all. I found that my scalp was a little damaged and in general my hair was needing some repair. I can tell that my stress levels of taking on too many projects and compromising sleep were evident in the quality of my hair, something I definitely had a lot of time to think about while sitting in the chair waiting for the colour. It is kind of an eye-opener to see the scalp and hair under the microscopic test and realize that my choices often affect me later in ways I can not predict.
Note to self, learn to say no a little more and to take time out!
FINDING THE COLOUR
I love that I was able to share with Charlotte images that we both thought we could achieve, as well as explaining that I was about to head overseas on a several month trip and ideally wasn’t wanting to deal with a re-growth issue. To avoid this Charlotte left a fair bit of the darker hair at the crown so that it grew out less noticeably. To lighten the existing hair, after taking out the foils Charlotte then ‘broke the base’ which is a technique to lighten the natural hair shade and blend the highlights in a little better.
Charlotte introduced me to Olaplex which is a conditioning treatment to reduce damage caused from going blonde- as Charlotte explained, it was how they managed to do Kim Kardashian’s hair earlier in the year when she went white blonde in a day and still maintained healthy hair. As apart of the Olaplaex treatment, I was given a take-home treatment to use once a week to maintain the healthy blonde and reduce damage.
I was given a Kérastase Fusio Dose concentrated treatment to strengthen the hair and introduced to the new Kérastase Resistance Thérapiste range which is a breakthrough in hair repairing technology. The formulas of Resistance Thérapiste are enriched with FIBRA-KAP™, a powerful complex designed to compensate for the missing KAPs (Keratin Associated Proteins), major partners in ensuring the structure of hair. These tiny proteins link keratins to each other and attach them together. An uncommonly strong cohesive power without which the fiber’s structure would collapse. This acts like a revitaliser for damaged almost dead hair, giving it back some life- something that my split ends were crying out for. The range is brand new and the girls had only just been to a conference explaining it the night before- so I could tell they were excited about it.
As it had been a long while since my last cut, once the colour and treatments were all done I shifted chairs so that Doireann could style and cut my hair. I wanted to give it a little more help shaping into the natural waves- which I often tong to create soft curls, so Doireann cut in a few layers for me. The best part about this is maintaining the length but losing some of the weight. Finally, Doireann added a finishing serum (the Kérastase Resistance Thérapiste) and lightly curled my now smooth, lighter locks.
HOW I FELT ABOUT THE TRANSFORMATION
It is such a big change to go lighter, that I was naturally a little shocked to look in the mirror, but I am excited to see the colour grow and change over the coming warmer months. Now really did feel like the perfect time to lighten up. If you are thinking about doing the same- I say, go for it. Clear a day, book yourself in to see the Maurice Meade girls and then enjoy a day off while they work their magic. It is so fascinating to me to watch people who don’t spend all day working on a computer and reminds me to spend more time switched off.
