The beautiful new spa retreat just outside of Perth in the secluded bushland of the Perth Hills everyone has been waiting for. Introducing Amaroo Retreat and Spa.
We travelled out to Amaroo Retreat, located in Mount Helena, close to Mundaring, from Perth taking in the bushland scenery along the way. Only a 45-minute drive from the Perth CBD, the retreat is a world away from the hustle and bustle. Offering king or queen chalets boasting bushland views, big windows, double showers, beautiful bathrooms and outdoor spa, this place is stunning.
There really aren’t too many people that I come across who don’t think they could do with a mini-retreat somewhere to unwind, enjoy good food and a little peace and quiet. It always amazes me that in such a short amount of time, you can rejuvenate your body so much by stepping back from your desk or work life, turning off the tv and phone.
In visiting Amaroo Retreat I think it started a chain for me of actually making time to unwind and enjoy some quiet non-digital time. Since our stay last year, I am reading more, sleeping better and opting to spend more time away from my phone and laptop. What I have realised has been that even a little break can really refocus you when you do step back into work mode.
AMAROO RETREAT AND SPA
The Amaroo Retreat is hidden away in peaceful bushland, which you can either chose to wander through and spot kangaroos or simply observe from your own private verandah. Each chalet has an outdoor setting to relax with a good book or over a tasty platter. We definitely did both!
Offering double showers overlooking a little private garden and outdoor spas you are a world away from the busy city or suburban life. Undisturbed, Amaroo Retreat is the place to quickly head off too and give yourself the downtime we all crave. Though, there is wifi, if you want to keep in touch or keep working!
We were greeted with a welcoming antipasto platter, perfect for lunch. After lunch, we explored the property which was blooming with wildflowers and came back to enjoy the spa while the sun went down. I was in heaven.
Amaroo is a spa retreat offering spa treatments in their in-house treatment room. Choose from hot stone massage, relaxation or aromatherapy massage, facial treatments, full body exfoliating treatments and more.
I think I may have to go back for one of those once they are officially open!
MUST SEE / DO IN THE PERTH HILLS
Waking up early, Mario and I braved the morning frost to catch the sunrise through the trees and wander through the bushland to see the wildflowers waking up. Though, I may have enjoyed the early wake-up call more than most people might. If you are looking for things to do during your stay, there are options a short drive away.
The Perth Hills are close to the nearby Swan Valley wine region, so if you are making a few days of it, there are plenty of wineries to visit. My favourite for both wine and food is Lamont’s Estate, who has the best Chardonnay on offer if you are into an oaky buttery white wine. We may have called in here for a late lunch on our way home.
Nearby, there are plenty of national parks for bushwalking, cycling and picnics and the Mundaring Weir.
WHERE TO EAT
For dinner, we headed to Inn Mahogany Creek, a short drive from Amaroo Retreat. The Inn is a renovated and charming spot with excellent dining options. There are good spots located nearby, including the famed original Little Ceasars Pizzeria in Mundaring offer award-winning wood-fired pizzas that might call to you!
In the morning, we enjoyed the breakfast basket kindly left for us on the balcony. Filled with fresh fruit, yoghurt, juice and muffins it was perfect to enjoy as the sun rose over the trees. Each chalet offers a coffee pod machine and tea making facilities.
Rather than head out after breakfast, we took the opportunity to stay in, relax a little before heading back to the city. It isn’t often that we have a view out to uninterrupted bushland!
