Walking someone else’s dog was the best way to up my step count. But I loved other things in March too.
I’m sitting here typing this feeling mildly chuffed with myself. Why? I just hit send on a newsletter for March, which had been on my to-do list since February. Since I’d never gotten around to sending one out in February. It happens. They aren’t difficult or a chore or anything but I guess they are in my to-do list around the same point as things like ‘vacuum’ or ‘clean out the shelves in the fridge’*. I will probably do them eventually, but I put it off without really noticing I do it.
*Mario will ultimately do the fridge shelf cleanout. Haha, I kid that I will ever do it myself.
8 THINGS I LOVED IN MARCH
Since I’m chuffed just at completing this small task, it is evident that I get excited over even the smallest things! As another month comes to it’s close, the following are the 8 things I loved in March.
Small things. Mario and I downloaded the Qantas Wellbeing app, which does things like accumulate loyalty points while you sleep or walk. For the first month, it allows you to accumulate them at a high percentage, so we were making the most of it in March. This meant that I spent a lot more of the month walking than usual. It got me walking an average of 55-62k steps per week. Not a whole lot, to be fair, but as I live and work in a tiny apartment, with no commute, there are days where I barely clock over 2000 recorded steps.
While the accuracy of both my phone and my smartwatch is debatable – Mario clocked a LOT more steps than me with his shiny new Apple Watch, it felt good to make the effort.
A lot of the time I walked in the evenings, making the most of the sunsets. I appreciated people’s gardens, the sunlight coming across the trees, I counted a nightly average of spotting three cats (two of whom let me pat them) and got to occasionally cool off walking through sprinklers. Again, small things.
I also realised that I walk fast. I’d cover over 8km in a short period of time.
ACCUMULATING LOYALTY POINTS
While I am at it, one of my favourite things this month was getting more Qantas points! haha, I want to accumulate more to use for flights! I’ve been online shopping with their new Chrome widget which pops up to tell me if I can earn points through a store and if so how many per dollar. Pretty clever. It all adds up, so it’s one way to be mindful of how or where I am shopping. And no, this isn’t sponsored by them- I wish! Gimme all the points!
WALKING WITH A FURRY FRIEND
Since we don’t have a pet, I ask my friend Jess to meet up most weeks for a walk with her dog d’Artagnan. This month, Jess went away (and is not back just yet) so we have been able to take Darty out for walks a few times a week. You might see him on my Instagram Stories (@inspiringwit).
If you are looking for ways to increase your step count and don’t have a dog, I highly suggest offering to take someone else’s for a walk for them. They might be too busy, or might not get around so easily, so it can be helpful for owners too. In fact, our neighbors are volunteer dog walkers. I didn’t know it even existed, but there are Facebook groups where people can advertise that they need someone to walk their dogs for them. Then volunteers can get in touch and organise times to walk their dogs each week. It’s pretty cool!
Each year, Mario’s Kung Fu school (he is an instructor) head over to Rottnest Island for a day trip. Some years I don’t want to go, usually, if it’s cold already, and I know I won’t be able to swim. The island is beautiful, though I’ve only ever visited the same spots and haven’t explored much of the island. This time it was a hot day, I got a couple of swims in (though apparently, the ocean rejects me ’cause every time I got in the water big waves rolled in). It’s a pretty cool spot to visit if you are over in Perth.
CHRISTINE AND THE QUEENS
My love for Christine and the Queens has not waned since I first heard one of her debut album songs four years ago. This March I finally got to see the Perth Festival show and it was INCREDIBLE! My highlight of the year so far. I love her!!
I could really say Sydney, but since my March trip only really left me with a 45-minute window to explore, I spent it dashing up to Sephora to pick up a couple of items on my wishlist. I didn’t have time to eat anywhere or see anyone so I can’t add much more from the trip than ‘Sephora’.
To be fair, I am trying to love it more than I naturally do. I’m getting better with cardio little by little. The other week I pulled something in my arm so I’ve not been able to do as much in my workouts until it heals. Cardio sessions, squats, and lunges, however, I’ve been doing more of.
AUTUMN WINTER NEW ARRIVALS
Next month I will be sharing a lot more on these! The new arrivals in fashion for autumn and winter have made me so excited. Particularly suits like this one from Ralph Lauren. A dream! For everyday, I love sweaters, so this signature stripe Bohemian Traders sweater is perfection!! It just came out this week, so snatch one up fast!
