Slow days and lots of movies! What I loved in August (two mini-vacations and all).
8 THINGS I LOVED IN AUGUST
It’s now been 5 weeks and I’m still a little bit sick, so needless to say this last month has been slow going from my end. However, I did get in a couple of small trips, tried new beauty products, plus read and saw a bunch of movies. I’m more excited about September and spring, that is for sure!
MINI LOCAL GETAWAYS
Last month my parents were over in WA visiting, which gave me a chance to catch up and take two mini local trips. First up, to the North, staying overnight at Jurien Bay and testing out the tent. It was pretty cold overnight but I enjoyed it.
The second trip was a couple of nights in Margaret River. The Southern end of WA is my preferred, by a long shot. Heading North, there are fewer trees and it always feels windy. This time we stayed in a cute Airbnb close to the Margaret River township, meaning it was perfect to head up to Caves Road and take in a few wineries and food spots. I was excited to finally visit Wills Domain for a long lunch. Too excited (and at the time, too hungry) to take photos, you will have to trust me that each dish was delicious.
Last month I shared what is in my makeup bag for a staycation, check it out if you missed it.
READING THE ANNE SERIES AGAIN
Thanks to my rewatching of the Netflix Anne With an E series, I decided to re-read the Lucy Maud Montgomery Anne series. It was one of my favourites as an avid childhood reader. Though, I do believe I stopped reading some of the later books, finding I didn’t relate to them in the same way. Now, I am gunning through it on kindle, but I still have the original set of books given to me by my Aunt, Uncle and cousins tucked away on the bookshelf at my parent’s house.
SPRING MAKEUP FROM CLARINS
Entirely new to me, I’ve been using this little limited-edition spring makeup release from Clarins which I shared back here.
Pictured here is a cute circle bag I was recently gifted from Marimekko. I love finding interesting bags that don’t necessarily have the brands obvious logo emblazoned all over it. Instead, I look for little details, fine quality fabric, and finishes that will fit whatever I may need to at the time. Extra points if they go with a lot of outfits. Lately, I’ve been eyeing off some from See By Chloe, Tory Burch, Margaret Sherwood and Mansur Gavriel. Each offer some ladylike styles that would be repeat worn for years to come.
REARRANGING MY APARTMENT
Though I spent all of August being sick, sometimes in bed all day, we did manage to rearrange our apartment. Swapping the office and the living room, our second bedroom now acts as a cosy entertainment room. Where it was once a dark cold office, swapping the rooms around gives it a whole new feeling. At the moment our desk area is in the living room, which is warmer, brighter and a lot more welcoming to get work done. Taking out the couch from this space also created room for a small dining table and space to exercise more comfortably. I swear, it all feels much better!
Early in August, we were able to go to the new Palace Raine Square Cinema and try out the Platinum Lounge. Greeted with a drink and popcorn, we ordered dinner for the movie and settled into the giant chairs. I loved the pink decor of the lounge, it was so pretty! Since I also signed up to be a Movie Club member, I am planning to visit a lot more, Palace Cinemas get all the good foreign films. We ended up seeing The Lion King, Late Night, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Spiderman Far From Home last month. So, while I wasn’t well, my efforts to venture out were kept to movie nights!
NEW SKINCARE FROM MECCA
I shared a mini-review on Instagram here of some incredible new skincare goodies from Mecca. They were all getting a lot of testing time throughout August.
This is going to sound a bit crazy but having made the effort again to meal plan, has been so good! Intentionally shopping with a list & the exact number of ingredients and no more means less waste too.
